Plans for another large student residential scheme have been submitted to Coventry City Council.

Outline planning consent is being sought for a building that will provide 217 studio apartments. Sited adjacent to the ring road and directly opposite the seven storey Severn Trent offices, this development will consist of a building ranging in height from four to ten storeys and will include a retail element at ground level.

The site is located on Parkside which is south east of the City Centre and just outside the ring road. This area predominately occupied by the Coventry University Technology Park which comprises a number of modern buildings formed as an extension to the University’s main campus. There is also a number of new and existing purpose built student accommodation schemes as well as a small supply of residential housing in close proximity.

The development will require the demolition of the existing 33 Parkside building, a building considered to have little architectural merit. The proposed layout would deliver 130m² of class A1/A3 commercial floor space at ground level and managed student accommodation on the lower and upper floors .

A generous open space is proposed at the front of the commercial use, allocated as an external seating area that will aim to generate social activity in the area . An open planted courtyard is proposed on the north face to enable substantial tree planting designed to softhen the hard urban edge and reduce the visual impact of the Ring Road for occupants at the lower levels.
