Morning all, great win again yesterday our shared home is fast becoming fortress St Andrews neither of us having lost there yet this season (won’t last for us our football is shocking right now).

Decided to join SBT as obviously we now share St Andrews plus I’ve had an interest in Cov for years and not just football. Worked in Cov, did my degree at Cov, drank all round Cov, done loads of gigs and games at Cov and my partner is from Cov. Been a victim of the ‘don’t get chummy with a Brummie’ banter for large periods of my life but loved it.

Really interested in how yous get on this season and I know a few Blues who went yesterday seeing as we weren’t playing. Really hoping more of your fans join in the St Andrews experience and your crowds rise to a good level. I get all the arguments for and against but it’s still Cov and they are doing great.

The majority of our fans have welcomed Cov to the ground and for me the fact that we are giving you guys a hand is brilliant cos at one point our situation was just as dire. The fact that for once the decision to help was not made for profit reasons is great too.

surprised to hear you say your football is dire, the bits I've seen of Blues this season, (which admittedly isn't much), they seemed to knocking the ball around nicely.

Morning Clint, I’m the sad type who never misses a game including foreign pre season friendlies. Also as a Blues fan I know shit when I see it lol.

I’d say we’ve played two good halves of football so far this season. God knows how we’re 9th.

I didn't realise! Obviously seeing brief hi-lights means I've only caught the good bits!
Hopefully things get better. Funny league the Championship, (in fact all the lower leagues) 2 or 3 good results totally alter the outlook of a season.
Of course 2 or 3 bad results have the same affect!

Wish I’d only seen the highlights mate

Blues continuously make weird decisions which make no sense to most and self harm.

As in sacking Monk.

Don’t wanna go on about Blues though, am a guest in this house lol.

I agree Steve, mind not when it comes to Vi*la. Myself, and everybody I know, totally hate them. I can’t really have a rational conversation about it.

Would be great if we are both in the Championship next season, and the Villa got relegated.

If that happened it would be weird for us Blues fans being in the away end for a Cov v Blues home fixture

I’ve worked in Birmingham for the past 36 years (retired last week!) spreading the Sky Blue Gospel! I have to say I haven’t made many converts! For the past 28 years I have worked in Chelmsley Wood which is a bit of a Blues stronghold. I have obviously worked with lots of Blues and Villa fans who, in the work setting, have a laugh and a joke with each other. However, at the games there really does seem to be a hate filled atmosphere. I found that strange as you are all Brummies, love Brum and live and work together. Having said that, if I had been born in Birmingham I’d have supported Blues as I like the underdog. Villa fans do have an air of arrogance when talking about their club.

Mostly Blues fans as I say but still a fair smattering of Villa (and, as far as I know, only 1 Sky Blue - me!)
The hate bit is the bit I don’t get. There seems real animosity at the derby matches but you all get on together in the week.

Lived in your fine city for 21 years now, great place to live (sorry Cov folk!). Got two Brummie kids (been careful they didn’t pick up the accent ). Son was told early on that if he absolutely had to pick a local team there was only one that would be allowed and it ain’t villa. He seems to have picked up an irrational dislike for all things claret and blue. Truly detests Grealish, I have to remind him we’re all the same inside sometimes.

Turned out alright though as he’s now a die-hard Sky Blue. Still find it funny when he wears his Cov top everywhere we go, never had anything (bad) said though.

Would prefer playing here permanently from a purely selfish perspective (20 minutes to get to the game!), but want us back in Cov realistically.

All the blues fans I’ve spoken to seem ok about the ground share, just pleased to help out.

Fair play.

For me to see BCFC fans taking an interest is a good thing. We all have shared values opinions etc. This one a little different as we are using their ground , I know the Cov fans looking at their home results as well

Congrats!

I’ve really enjoyed the St. Andrews experience. I’ve not been to every game but made to feel very welcome. Now if we could just relocate it to cov...

just thinking about our cricket experience of Warwickshire bears changing name to Birmingham Bears.

Is there any reason why no football team is named after a county ?, surely would have a wider catchment area ?

Loving it so far. So nice to just have the choice of things to do during the day and not trying to fit things in around work. It does mean I can go to as many games as I want always allowing for family commitments.

I guess our current catchment area would largely be Warwickshire. Just maybe Solihull who would probably be more likely to follow a Brum team.

I suppose the answer lies in most football clubs’ origins as workers’ teams or teams created for a specific community in the towns/cities. As some of these teams fell away and others merged they came to represent whole places rather than parts. Cricket seems to have taken a different path.

I went to a very expensive Indian restaurant in London a few months back which had loads of old black and white photos from the empire days. Standing proud on a wall of a building in Calcutta was a sign for Singers cycles. I have no idea how this relates to this thread but thought I’d post it anyways

Singers cycles very close to our hearts.

I guess if we said on yer bike, you'd think of Tony Butler

Thanks for the support Stan, always enjoyed the blues fans I've worked with having some good banter with 'cack' fans. Unlike the immitation brummies, on the piss in their Sutton wine bars

And happy retirement Irish

How is Jutkiewicz regarded by your lot? Always liked him while he was here, proper striker who leads the line well. We may well not have been relegated if we kept hold of him in January during the 2011/12 season

Highly regarded mate, always puts a shift in and always gives their centre halves a tough game. He plays the game like an old fashioned centre forward but has a fair bit of touch too.

He went up a notch when James Beattie arrived as part of Monks coaching staff and ended up last season with 15 goals.

Of course we wish we were playing in cov by St. Andrews a proper football ground and I’m loving it. Better atmosphere than the Ricoh even tho smaller crowds. Stewards generally friendly and an all round good vibe from local brummies...thank you. Some of this may be rose tinted specs as we have had a great opening to the campaign but I hope if/when we move back to cov and if we build a new ground it can be modelled on StAns.
