UPDATE:

Coventry City are still locked in talks with the man they have selected as their new manager.

The Telegraph understands that they want Tony Mowbray to succeed Steven Pressley and that he is keen to accept the challenge, but details are still being ironed out and it might be that there is no official announcement until tomorrow morning.

All going to plan we should be attending a press conference at some stage tomorrow afternoon to welcome in the new manager.

There's still a chance it could all be confirmed within the next hour but that is looking less likely than a few hours ago

Bloody Hell done deal where did that come from

Former England striker James Beattie has been appointed as the new manager of League One side Coventry City.
The former Southampton and Everton forward, who won five international caps, has been player-coach at the Store First Stadium since November.

The club announced Beattie's appointment after holding interviews with prospective candidates this week.
Tony Mowbray had also been heavily linked with the post. However a club spokesman stated it was deemed that his win ratio did not stand up to scrutiny. When his time at Celtic was taken into consideration. This falsely raised his ratio in comparison to James.
Chairman Steve Waggot told BBC Radio: "We want someone who's going to keep the team spirit going, someone who's going to work very hard with a limited budget, and someone who fits in with the general feel of Coventry City."

I'd always imagine that a deal would be done before the two parties met. What's there to iron out?

Well, at least I now know how I'd feel if it's Beattie that IS announced - instant cold sweat and just will more than likely throw my phone at the wall

No announcement tonight it appears!

Not sure what to make of it really.

Telegraph hyped things up with a non story? Rumours getting out of control? Mowbray having second thoughts? Who knows!!

Makes tomorrow nights games all the more interesting......

These things take time. He was never going to be in charge for Barnsley anyway. First home game port vale Saturday and mowbray is the man.

The new manager has been confirmed as Jim the gate keeper. Of course Jim won't really be managing the team but the identity of new gaffer will be known only to investors....

Tis true I tell you....

If he truly wants the fans to come back; I hope he gets written assurances.

Regardless of the salary, I'm hoping his integrity means more to him.

Without apiece of paper to wave a la Chamberlain...hope he waits before signing.

The thing that really pisses me off about this whole saga is that with just the smallest amount of investment the crowds at the Ricoh could be be so much more thus ensuring better player recruitment.

They probably just told him he won't have a pot to piss in and unless he keeps us up he will be fired in May for an unknown who has shown promise in the Scottish leagues.

I think we've done appeasement, the call seems to be for resistance.
