Hey

I am looking at getting a new laptop after Christmas, I was just wondering if anyone with any technical knowledge could advise me or recommend me a good laptop. I know obviously the higher ram and hard drive are better but I was more interested in the different types of processors and graphic cards and stuff.

I am not looking for a super expensive one btw

Just a couple of questions:

What is your budget for the laptop?

What do you intend to use the laptop for? ( i.e. Internet browsing, Gaming, Graphics design)

What do you need the graphics card for? (Blu-ray, movies, 3D, Gaming)

A bigger hard-drive wouldn't make the laptop any better, it would just store more data usually around 120GB+ is enougth.

Internet browsing, maybe some gaming, burning DVDs/CDs/games, converting between video formats (AVI, MP4 etc.)
If I play any games it will likely be just football manager

Will also likely be using lots of microsoft office applications like Excel and other data analysis like Origin and probably watching lots of films/TV series

Not sure if you're a fan of buying stuff of ebay but they have some cracking price's on laptops (that are completly brand new)

Laptops with graphics cards seem to go out of your price range.

2nd link has Windows 7 home premium 64 bit and fuly licensed microsoft office package included.

You could pick up a decent Acer Aspire E1 refurbished for about 279 with Windows 8 here
