Seen on the news and people saying they are making it harder, they have added following a sat nav for 20 minutes.

Much easier than having the examiner telling you where to go like I had to.

Mine managed to get us lost and it ended up lasting for an hour and a quarter. I even clipped the kerb when reversing around the corner and he passed me.

Back when I passed my test (first time!), there was a bloke running ahead of us with a red flag!

I had someone driving down the wrong side of the road head on towards me on mine.

I pulled up next to a lamppost by their door, thought he was going to fail me. He just asked me to reverse!

Seems a flawed idea. They are not even standard on many cars.
Actually I've never used a Sat nav myself, I can navigate OK,

Driving tests need to be harder, the standard of driving is appalling.

Did you see Guy Martin take his tracked vehicle driving test on his WWI tank program the other day. Looked fun.

Is the use of indicators now optional on the new driving test? Makes you wonder with some of the 'guess where I'm going next' numpties out on the roads.

I hate that in particular. At times I feel like I've missed my calling as a real jobsworth traffic police, I'd absolutely revel in stopping people who can't be arsed indicating or just blindly veer across lanes.

It was my dream when I was younger to become a traffic officer. Driving high performance cars, chasing the bad guys, making a difference to society blah blah.... Anyway, I found out what they actually do and that put me off. Mundane stops, dealing with arseholes all the time etc.

We are probably one of the best countries for driving in the world IMO. Whenever I go anywhere else it scares the life out of me.

Where was that place that switched from left to right hand side over night with no issues? They’ve probably got us beat.

Moscow is incredible. I was in a taxi and the guy decided to drive on the pavement to leap the queue.
Mumbai they drive in the dark without headlights to save their battery (while smoking with a gas canister in the boot of a Trabant) and traffic lights are optional.

I highly doubt whether a stiffer driving test will make people better drivers.
When some people get behind the wheel, they turn into a different person.
But anyone can fool a driving examiner for an hour or two.

Will there be any need for a test when driverless cars are the norm ?

I've just bought a new Sat-Nav with a Wild West theme.
I tried it out for the first time today in South London.
It gave me a route in Tooting in good time!

The driverless car will have to pass the test when it's manufactured.
They just had a pilot test of a driverless bus where I live. On its very first day of operation, it crashed.
They said it only happened because some other driver did something unexpected.
I don't know about you but I see people do unexpected things every time I drive.

No issues?

They didn't change their buses overnight. Can't remember where it was. But remember seeing pictures of people getting on and off buses in the middle of the road :jawdrop:

I once arrived in central Paris in rush hour.....in a vintage camper with trailer......no abs, power steering or even synchromeshed gear box......

....that was fun!
