I am not one of Allens strongest supporters by any stretch but Allen for Eccles would definitely be my choice

I thought Eccles looked tired last night. Hamer was like the duracell bunny, which made it stand out more. I think he needs a rest.

To be fair, MR seems to prefer one up top, and as PVA said Godden is the most likely for the chop, but I think Eccles needs a game or two on the bench so I could go either way on it.

Where has this Eccles has done well lie come from?

Have i been watching the wrong player because i feel hes been average at best.

The difference in class between him and sheaf is massive and you could see that last night

Need him and Palmer back. 2 strikers doesn't offer us as much especially when one of them hardly touches the ball

Any news on Palmer? Would hope he'll also be back by early April

Thought the midfield as a whole looked leggy last night. Off the pace first half against a pretty poor side. Sheaf improved proceedings but shows how fragile the squad is.

Sheaf is obviously a better player, I don't think anyone would say otherwise. But Eccles has done really well in his absence.

In fact when Eccles has started in midfield we've played 9, won 7 and lost 0 (I think that's right).

I'd be going Godden out and Allen in to pack the midfield. Vik is good enough to be the lone man up there and we are a far better side with 4 midfielders. Plus Godden is offering nothing

Allen isn't as good as Hamer or Sheaf on the ball, but it does go to show when he is out what he adds to the team.
Without his energy, the rest of midfield look shattered trying to fill that role

Hamer was way below his usual standards. Eccles does a lot of busy off the ball work, but I really think he's a significant drop off with the ball. The difference between first and second half was stark in how well we managed to move the ball from defense to midfield. Sheaf is essential to that. I don't think the budget will allow, and largely Sheaf is available, but we could do with a 'second' option in that role.

May offer a goal on paper but not much in it between Eccles and Allen for me. We missed Allen more on Saturday than last night.

he’s done ok - not as great as some comments on here - but he’s a reasonable fill in when we have injuries

If Eccles develops as hoped, great. He's clearly at the level of backup just atm though.

Which is realistically what Allen should be doing too.

All the stick Jamie Allen gets on here now suddenly it’s realised what he brings to the team when he plays the ground he covers often unnoticed, yes we can improve on him and possibly will but it’s well beyond time he got the respect he deserves.

Sheaf and Allen come back in. Invaluable experience for Eccles which will aid his development a huge amount. Back to back matches without injury. Plenty of data to work with from those games to help polish the diamond. I think Vik will end up signing a new contract and Hamer will be the one sold this summer, which will see Eccles starting a lot more games next year in midfield.

I'd drop Godden for Allen and go back to one up top. Eccles is offering more than Godden.

Yes it does leave us with two defensive midfielders in Sheaf and Eccles, but that could work to our advantage as it would give Hamer a freer role.

Yeah people say that Hamer would be wasted playing at AM, but in the absence of Palmer, Allen and O'Hare it's worth giving him a go at it. He's more of a goal threat than any of those tbh, can play people in and has boundless energy. Sheaf and Eccles is a fine combination to play behind him and provide the platform.

Has to be for Godden.

Godden has been poor in the games he's played and has offered nothing other than scoring a penalty. Also fucked after 75 mins

It might have been caused by his injury but currently he is a weak point on the pitch

Without knowing how much wages he’s on, he’s worth keeping as a back up option. Last season his clinical finishing was worth a lot. Ideally, we need to be getting 35+ games out of him and that seems past him at this stage unfortunately.

Speaking more generally, if we’re to play two strikers next season, I’d say we’d need a player who can carry the ball and run at defenders - i.e. another Gyokeres type player.

Otherwise, I believe O’Hare and Palmer will be our AMs playing off Vik or his replacement.

No fuckin way does Allen deserve to come straight back in.
Eccles and sheaf can hold the midfield and Hamer should play the number 10 role.
Eccles is looking better with a run in the team, and doesn't deserve to be dropped in favour of the lightweight headless chicken.

And how many would Hamer have scored if he'd of been played there all season?
Or Palmer for that matter?
Or maybe you think Allen is a better player than Hamer and Palmer.

Palmer played in a more advanced position. Hamer gets goals from driving from deep - absurd argument

Allen will go back in once fit , but there's going to be a role for everybody to play in the run in .. we need to use our squad to get to them playoff places

Hamer should not be playing number 10.
He's absolutely fine in the role he's in. His defensive work is massively overlooked and we don't want to lose that.
