A story which goes to show that a brand spanking new stadium in the wrong place is nothing more than a white elephant.

Undoubtedly.

Shame really, as it is a nice little ground! You go past it though and you wonder how *anybody* used to go there full-stop.

I went once, when city played a pre-season friendly there (prob about 10 years ago now), a really nice little ground.

Even more so when it's an amalgamation of two minnows in an area where football isn't popular.

these situations intrigue me...what happens to the supporters of such a club when the club folds? do they just go elsewhere and support closer teams? know what I mean?

http://www.afcdiamonds.com/ for the hardcore.

Then you'll always get some who just want a day out and get tempted by the better football on offer - at one stage Rushden were a threat to northampton in terms of league status.

Is always built on sand though, if the support from the owners isn't there for long enough to build up the hardcore... and the area isn't exactly densely populated anyway!

I think they need a stadium of at least 15K when playing European matches, hence the Ricoh.

A retail park on the edge of a town of 6,000 people?

I can see the stadium from my house... it's a quite a tragic story really. I know the new 'thing' is for fan-based ownership... but if there ever was there a cautionary tale it's this one.
