Hi all. I'm a Norwich City fan writing an article on James Maddison. Just wondered if you could answer a few questions as us Norwich fans don't know much about him.

1. Firstly what is Maddisons best position?

2. What are his strengths and weaknesses?

3. He is touted as a future star, from what you have seen so far do you believe he will live up to the hype?

4. Is he at a level decent enough yet to play weekly for a team pushing towards promotion from the championship?

1. I think that at the moment he is an impact player, better coming of the bench. I like him just behind the strikers
2. Good feet but is a bit lightweight and gets knocked over too easily
3. He has potential
4. Not in my opinion, it is too soon for him, but he will be a very good player

3. He is touted as a future star, from what you have seen so far do you believe he will live up to the hype? Yes if he gets protection from the referee's he'll be great.
4. Is he at a level decent enough yet to play weekly for a team pushing towards promotion from the championship? Yes

For slight weaknesses he had a tendency to go through his repertoire of touches to get into space when he received the ball when just passing it on was an option, but decision-making comes with experience so I don't think it'll be a great concern.

Attacking midfielder, just behind the striker.

2. What are his strengths and weaknesses?
He's skillful and has good technique but always goes down far too easily. So frustrating.

3. He is touted as a future star, from what you have seen so far do you believe he will live up to the hype?
He has the ability but was put off his game too easily second half of last season after the move. Too soon to tell.

4. Is he at a level decent enough yet to play weekly for a team pushing towards promotion from the championship?
Struggled to get in our team towards end of the season but does better in a team that's playing well. I'd say that he is good enough at that level, prem would have been a stretch at this stage but he'll get there.

Has a way to go yet to be hailed a future star but the potential is there, he will need time and games and patience.

2. What are his strengths and weaknesses? Falls over a lot, needs some time in the gym to get stronger

3. He is touted as a future star, from what you have seen so far do you believe he will live up to the hype? I'd be 50/50 on that, his head dropped after some criticism over the move. He'll need to be psychologically stronger to succeed at the top level.

4. Is he at a level decent enough yet to play weekly for a team pushing towards promotion from the championship? No, he wasn't playing weekly for us in a L1 team pushing for promotion.

2. very skillful, quick feet and change of direction. he is too lightweight, he goes down all the time, if you have a good free kick taker he will get you a lot of free kicks in good positions, he isn't pacey, but makes up with very good technique
3. not sure, he has the potential to be great, and until his move i thought he would be a future star, but how he played after his move would suggest not, like others have said he needs to play in an attractive attacking side
4. no he isn't

2. Quick feet, set pieces, can see a pass.
Very lightweight, goes down far too easily.
3. Don't think he is as good as some of our fans believe. But in fairness he has barely started his career, but then that makes your investment a gamble. I think he needed another season with us to judge properly.

Yes I think he can make a difference in the NC team, he can be an effective impact player. Not where near premier league standard but needs a strong Defensive Midfielder with him doing to leg work.

2. What are his strengths and weaknesses? Strengths: First touch, close ball control, dribbling, good eye for defence splitting pass, decent long shot. Weaknesses: Not strong enough at the moment, doesn't enjoy a tackle

3. He is touted as a future star, from what you have seen so far do you believe he will live up to the hype? Yes, as long as he gets game time in his favoured position. He will be more at ease in the Championship and then Premiership as they are less physical

4. Is he at a level decent enough yet to play weekly for a team pushing towards promotion from the championship? I think if he settles, he will surprise a few people. He undoubtably has the quality, just a matter of how many games he can sustain his levels for at his age. He is still physically a boy

Centre Mid ultimately ( he will be like a Modric type) currently as a 10.

Strengths, carrying the ball, passing, dictating the pace of a game ( in the youth teams) currently not doing that enough at this level, but it will come. His self belief is excellent, he always wants the ball, I recall on his 1st team debut, he came on and took control of all free kicks and corners etc. Close control, he can turn on a 6 pence, he just has an inate ability to drift by the opposition

Weaknesses, slight stature but this will be nullified somewhat as he goes up the levels as its not as physical as League one, however he is also very adept at using his bodywhen somebody tries to clatter him. his confdence levels suffered slightly when the move was announced and some fans gave him a bit of a hard time, this affected him badly, he started to go over easily, but I suppose thats due to having 1/2 an eye on the future.

3. He is touted as a future star, from what you have seen so far do you believe he will live up to the hype?

Yes, no question, he will go on to be a very good premiership player. I personally think he is a future England international.

4. Is he at a level decent enough yet to play weekly for a team pushing towards promotion from the championship?
Yes, although I have reservations about your manager and getting the best out of him.

1. Probably just behind the striker(s) in the hole.

2. Good vision and trickery. Unfortunately he dives for England. Also unable to put in any kind of challenge past tripping an opposition player up.

3. At first I thought so, but now I do think he flatters to deceive a little. He should have been shining bright in League One, but a couple of little sparkling cameos apart he didn't do that.

Still young though so maybe Norwich will see him blossom.

1. Too early to say for certain but probably just behind the striker

2. Strength? He goes down at every opportunity and sometimes it pays off winning free kicks in dangerous areas. Weaknesses? He goes down at every opportunity and sometimes it doesn't pay off making him look silly. And quite often greedy

3. Clearly has talent but is a long way off even being close to the finished article. If what we've seen is the finished article, I'd be worried for the lad

while i agree with most of the above - it is quite amusing that we were all moaning when he was sold so cheaply
Agreed he hasnt progressed since then, and got too big for his boots., so much so that TM wouldnt pick him in the end
he has a lot of growing up to do in his head, if he wants to make it big - otherwise may be another Kevin thornton

Thanks for all your input guys! I was really excited when we first signed him but having read your comments it seems he may have to wait a while to break into the team. One good thing is that we have Wes Hoolahan who is an excellent no10 and should be able to help Maddison become a better player. Do you think he had his head turned since the move was announced in January?

Also out of interest how did you find Murphy for you guys? I personally cant stand him at Norwich but then again a lot of supporters really like him.

Again murphy was used as a bit part player in the end. When he wants it, his pace destroys teams, but when he doesnt he ambles around feeling sorry for himself

His best position is clearly in the number 10 role, he lacks any sort of clout to be playing as a deeper lying midfielder and lacks the pace to play as a winger, good feet and decent vision has scored a couple of decent goals with effective link up with our forward line

At the moment the simple answer has to be a complete unknown, he has showed promise in some games and gone completely missing in others. He was made to look better than he is earlier in the season by Adam Armstrong who was at the time the best striker in the league. Future star is a huge leap for someone who had 12 appearances and 2 goals last season

4. Is he at a level decent enough yet to play weekly for a team pushing towards promotion from the championship?

Simply put- No

Strengths are his skills if he plays against lightweight opposition. He dives around a lot, spending most of his time on the floor. He is very weak physically.

not so much turned, he got a bit of grief ( listen to the Nii Lamptey podcast with our former media man Keiran Crowley) this affected his confidence, overnight he went from one of the brightest talents we have ever produced to a Snake. Even though the move has made him and his family financially secure for life...

As for Murphy, he will go on to be a decent player, a lot of football fans in general see things in black and white terms, I think he contributed over 20 goals to our tally for the season, however some games he didnt make an assist or score or look dangerous, hence the divided opinion. However if he was able to produce an assist or score in each game then he would have been loaned to CCFC and he wouldnt be at Norwich either...

Wasn't so much head turned. He is a CCFC fan and got a lot of stick from a small number of fans for leaving. It's the first time he'd had to deal with fans not being 100% behind him and he let it get to him. Personally I think he could be a good player at Championship level next year but I think moving too soon could stunt his growth as a player. He'd only been in the first team six months when you signed him and spent a lot of that injured. In fairness, if Norwich hadn't signed him when they did and he'd had chance to grow further as a player first he'd likely have gone to a bigger club - a lot of them were sniffing around as it was.

He's too lazy. There were periods he looked our best player but he only turns up once in a blue moon.

Would say this pretty much sums him up. Although I think he got an unfair amount of stick which probably knocked his confidence a bit.
Murphy for me would be closer to getting in the Norwich side that Maddison.

Nice vision. Some decent touches. Skillful.

He had a good impact at the start. But seemed to believe his own hype too much. Trying to create a JM brand (a la CR7). He needs someone to give him some tough love. To make him man up a bit. Personally I don't think he'll be much better than a championship player.

He dives too much. Is too weak on the ball. With a team that offers him protection or in a league where he had more time on the ball he could be ok. I don't think he'll be more than a bit part player this year for you.

Biggest weakness for me is his tendency to throw himself on the floor looking for a free kick.

He can change a game when he's in the mood.

Good player, knows how to draw a foul average pace good spatial awareness what level he will get to I don't know all about timing, but he is doing OK at the moment and very young good luck to him.

He's had a lot of stick for diving but he had a fair bit of 'treatment' last season from opposition teams. I think he'll get more protection the higher up the leagues he goes as the referee's should be a bit better.
Plenty of teams were taking it in turns to kick him last year and he got very little help from ref's.

Hopefully he will sort out the whole diving issue when he gets here. Our manager Alex Neil is not a man who would accept that sort of business and expects all players to work hard. Watched a few videos on youtube of him in your youth team and he certainly looks like he is technically very good. He will need to work hard to get in ahead of the likes of hoolahan and Naismith in the number ten.
On another note if I were you guys I would be looking to get rid of Mowbary and get in Paul Lambert, would do wonders in that league for you guys
