If that's the case we need to concentrate on Barrett first.

Coming in on trial is hard. Strange environment, you don't know their game they don't know yours. The existing squad will view you with suspicion.

Think back to your first day in any job...
Did you blow people out of the water????

Chris Paul I believe his name is.

Coventry City are running the rule over a new triallist.
Queens Park Rangers defender Chris Paul is currently training with the Sky Blues.
Paul, a 20-year-old centre-half, who can also play in midfield, has been a regular in the QPR U23 side coached by former Sky Blues striker Paul Hall.
The former Tottenham Hotspur trainee joined the Loftus Road club in the summer of 2016, having impressed QPR coaches in matches for the U18s and U21s.
Name the Trialist
Paul signed a new deal in November 2016, but is out of contract this summer.
He has been on the bench for QPR, but is yet to make a first team debut.
Speaking to the QPR official website last season, he said: "I've been on the bench a couple of times and now the next step is to try and force my way into the team and make my debut.
"I just need to keep pushing, keep trying to impress and try and take any opportunities that come my way."

CT, pretty much a rehash of what's already been said in this thread, 80% plagirised.

Is he like a top up as Leahy returned to Ireland?
Or has a younger lad stepped up?

Good point. Clubs take many trialists and the majority of the time they're never heard of again. You will get some who train a few days, clearly not up to the standard and won't play a game. I've heard of clubs just taking trialists on for the numbers knowing full well they have no interest in signing the player. Harsh but that's football

There is a trialist currently playing in midfield in the U23 game against Charlton Athletic. Does anybody know if this is the same man?

I little disappointed that our u23 ‘coach’ has come out for some reason and given the young kids that played today a hard time. Not only were they playing u23’s but also when most of them played 90 mins Saturday and the squad was weakened due to players going with the first team!

I’ve never ever known an u23 coach to love talking to the local rag so much. He’s so wrong to give these kids a hard time after two games in three days playing higher standard than they usually play. It’s not he’s decision who stays but the academy manager. So wrong and disappointing.

What did he say what was so bad in your opinion? How I interpreted it was that he was saying if they want to become professional footballers they need to show more than they did today. Their league form has also been very poor & only bright sparks have been 1 or 2 of the 17s and 16s.

I know for a fact players & staff members at the club read this forum, the thread at the top of this page in particular so I try and keep criticism to a minimum whenever I post. These lads he’s talking about (the second year scholars) are 17 years old they need to be able to take criticism IMO if a coach feels they haven’t performed well enough, some of them could be 6 months away from being around the squad and the criticism they will get in a first team will be a lot greater and not just coming from a coach

You NEVER should criticise players in the press.... NEVER. He’s bang out of order and needs to pack it.

He hasn't picked any of them out Individually or personally shamed anyone.

He's said that they didn't give enough or pretty much that they didn't show that they were too bothered.

As somene who plays and coaches, there is nothing worse than a lacklustre effort from the rest of the team. I would not want to see that in the first team going forwards (where some of these players may well be).

You've overreacted there massively.

I don’t agree, if they played well and he came out with that then I’d agree it’s unfair and wrong but by all accounts the performance wasn’t good enough today - much younger team than Charlton or not.

I’d rather a coach tell me I wasn’t good enough and I need to improve rather than making excuses and tell me I put a great performance in

It’s football. Not everything is a smooth ride

I disagree and believe me I’ve been there. You do your talking to the players not the press.

I don’t think it’s that bad honestly. If he had a go at the result I’d have a problem because they were against players a few years older but his issue is with the general performance and work rate of the team.

2 years ago CCFC U23s went down to Hull, lost 5-0 and got the run around for 90 mins. In the team that night were Cian Harries, Tom Bayliss, George Thomas, James Maddison, Jordan Shipley and Bassala Sambou. They got criticised heavily that night by then coach Lee Glover for the standard of performance. All 6 of them are still within professional football and earning a decent living from the game so maybe it’ll be a wake up call they need

There was a great interview with Sean Dyche in the Sunday Times this weekend
He rarely bollocks players because he always hated it when a manager called him a c*** during his playing days
His take was 'why not tell me what I need to do to improve' which is the attitude he's taken into management
Most common sense I've heard from a manager in a long time
