Personally I feel a little uncomfortable with talk about increasing revenues, diversifying.

A football stadium for a football club would be nice, it's what makes English football unique, and gives it more of an identity where stadiums are municipal entities, and the football club isn't central to its home.

Oh brave new world that has such buildings in it. Let's start at once.

I interpreted the comment as "We aren't doing enough with the stadium complex and we could make some money selling it". Which is intriguing, don't think it plays into SISU's hands though.

In other words...

The current business model of the Arena is flawed with or without the Football Club and ACL can't maintain this.

You'd think the chances of CCFC making the Arena prosper as a business are better than a Council Owned Arena. What events have they had on CCFC left at the end of the season?

My point is that why are acl now to be scrutinised because CCFC are no longer there, its not as if they were kicked out.

Major events probably take 12-18months to put on so it's understandable there has been no action. Time from the club's threat surfacing to it happening didn't allow for much to be put in place. I'm sure they'll be working on it though.

That's the point though. i don;t want a football club to be secondary to other events in a football stadium.

It's like Wembley being used for semi-finals to pay the bills, and things like the national student self-pleasuring tournament, stops it being special.

They have to turn down business all of the time because of clashes with CCFC games I heard. Trying to think of alternative regular uses for a football stadium is difficult outside of the summer month.

what about if they reduced the size of the stadium to suit how many people might actually turn up to watch league 1 games and redeveloped the rest? Nice little compact ground for 12K would be ideal.

tbh I don't really care about that.

I do care that in the modern world, a football stadium is no longer a football stadium.

Of course NW your correct, but our home, a place that was cherished by every fan and the fact it stood for the club and kick off a 3 o'clock on a Saturday not a casino or an exhibition hall was torn down by Richardson! It was his idea to have a ground for us which was like no other so we could benefit in so many ways, I'd be happy if SISU built a stadium that was as close to Highfield Road specifications as possible, but I have my doubts

They will not have turned anything down as much as they will be looking for business that don't coincide with games that we are due to play at home. How unhappy would it make everyone if SISU gave up their plans of getting the Ricoh on the cheap once they ran out of ideas on how to force a sale and have had enough of paying out each month to keep our club running to find out some home games couldn't happen? The current wage bill is now much lower. They would make a profit each month with a much lower rent. A cup run would be a bonus.

Can't be denied that The Ricoh has massively undersold it's potential since it's opened.

This summer, only two gigs, when quite a few people on the "circuit",really should have had a few more.

Been the same most years, and plenty who do a gig here one year, but when touring again, tend to play somewhere else instead.

The same has happend with Rugby Union, when was the last time that there was a Heineken Cup game here? Lost out on the Rugby World Cup, and not had an U21 game for around four years either.

It's the fact that people play there, but don't come back that should be the most concerning.

They turn down exhibitions because CCFC were there for a match day, only last season they had to turn down England under 21 games as they clashed.
Trust me it happens and CCFC were always the priority.

Just done a quick check as I'm bored at work.

In 11 games since 28/03/2011 only 1 England U21 game has clashed with our home games. When we lost 3-0 to Crewe in the JPT.
That was played at Walsall so I reckon that could be one 'we' would have had.
1 was 3 days away so could count as a clash.

Yeah, but he didn't mention the last World cup games that we would have had if only they hadn't clashed with them being played in South Africa.

We would have Glastonbury too, except it clashed with the fact that it's traditionally put on in Glastonbury.
