My thoughts on events. (1 Viewer)

1) The players seem as though they've given up.
2) Nobody in the squad has any confidence what-so-ever (which may explain 1).
3) Thorns substitution of Wood for Christie reminded me of a very dark period under Coleman.
4) There seems to be a bit of disharmony (what on earth happened with McDonald?)
5) Murphy once again showed he's dodgy when it comes to 'CATCHING' a ball. Something a keeper is really paid to do.
6) The team is so painfully weak that we have to turn to Gael (a young 18 year old in his first season) for a tiny bit of inspiration.
7) Only Gael and Platt showed real desire during the game today.
8) Is Gardner suffering the 'come to Coventry rot'. He seemed reckless at times today.
9) Ken should not have been anywhere near the dugout today.

8. The attacking midfielder Gary Gardner was played as a holding defensive midfielder rather than the in attacking midfield role, in spite of Gary Gardner being an attacking midfielder and not a holding defensive midfielder.

Not Thorn's fault at all though. :facepalm:

Christie isn't a left back though. Should have moved him to right-back (where he can play and is effective) and put Keogh in the middle with Cranie on the left considering he's played there before. That was bad judgement. Christie doesn't have a left peg on him. It's well and truly a swinger.

With regards to McDonald, if it was a true injury fair enough but he didn't seem at all happy with being taken off and I don't remember seeing him reappear from the tunnel after going down there following words with Thorn. Something didn't seem right to me about that.

Either way I think Thorn is beginning to struggle and the cracks are showing.

Maybe ken changed the tactic's.
Doubt villa would be happy about that, ok he is here to get match time but I would have thought in his prefered position.

Watching Gary Gardner at times I began to wonder if I was looking at a martial arts demonstration. He was lucky not to see red in the first half (the other leg seemed to swing into play making it slightly 2 footed) and other challenges as well I thought were daft.

But Christie is quick and gets forward more than Cranie. If we were winning 1-0 then yes the change you suggested would have been better. But as we were chasing the game it was the right call.

Quick or not it's out of position and he can't be as effective. Even if he can burst down the wing with that pace he then had to stop and turn around back onto his right foot. He could have made much better inroads down the right looking to put in a cross first time after bursting past the defender.

If you have someone that's more comfortable at right back and somebody already on that has experience at left back you put them in the right positions. That's rule number 1. I used to go mental when Coleman played people out of position and Thorn is doing it as well.

I don't agree that would entail 3 changes to the back 4 not 1, and with Christie left at least there were two attacking outlets, where as if cranie had gone left back we'd have had only Christie.

Was surprised to see Gardner holding, although he's a box to box midfielder not just an out and out attacking midfielder. Thought Thomas played well holding for the last 15 mins.

Big mistake by Thorn to not utilise the ability that Gary Gardner has and not have that option of the goal potential threat he carries too.
