Interesting question that. I think Gyo and Hamer would tear it a new one, but the Wilson clones would get on well afterwards.

I think the big worry in regards to when Robins does eventually go is that our success is pretty much solely down to him. We have zero infrastructure on the footballing side to fall-back on. People live to compare us to Brighton or Brentford in terms of where we want to be and what we should be doing but the difference there is that they were both very well run and had owners who knew what they were doing. We’ve got a guy who doesn’t seem to have ever watched a football match prior to this time last year, a head of recruitment we poached from National League south and that’s about it.

Do you actually watch our games?
WBA 15 shots no goals
Rotherham 23 shots no goals
Bristol 12 shots no goals
Norwich 21 shots no goals (it was an oggy not from our shot)
Thats 71 shots with no goals. Hardly not shooting in games are we.

I mean. Even if 10% of them went in thats 7 goals.

We're managing 0%. Thats absolutely abysmal whatever way you want to look at it

Doesn’t matter, all that matters is the score line

we’ve spend millions upon millions and we’re completely and utterly toothless

Gyokeres had already had a season scoring goals. If you take hamer and Gyokeres goals out from last season there’s a huge void and I personally can’t see where the goals will come

We are also conceding goals far more

We are, although it's worth noting that the defence was pretty shaky up until January and us signing McNally last year. Doyle and Panzo were as erratic, if not more, as Bobby Thomas is now. That's not saying he's at the level of Doyle, but does show the problem of starting with a new defence each season - time to learn the system and drills etc.

It’s not meaningless though is it. A team could have 40 shots but all come from 35 yards out.

with xG it assigns the likelyhood of scoring - take Bristol City for example. We had something like 12 shots, we’re said to have dominated. Whilst we dominated possession we had 1 shot on target.

Aren’t there different sources though and they don’t give the same result?

What you mean @Evo1883

XG data I used to argue against years ago on here , but they do a good job of showing quality of chances created .. they can be a sure fire way of telling you if a team is underperforming infront of goal .

We are 9th in the XG table creatively , but also 5th best in terms of chances against .. the stats are in the right place

The team are underperforming based off this metric

Well we can argue against the Style of play all day every day , fact is we've created enough good chances to be in and around the playoffs , and we don't give too many good chances away defensively either ..

The players need to stop letting the manager down , end of story

That haji wright chance last night was unreal

That surprises me tbf, but you are right - certainly didn't feel like it though as Doyle and Panzo weren't inspiring confidence!

I actually thought he looked quite sharp last night tbf, actually looked a footballer. He was there to have the chance which is the making of a striker.

Andy Cole used to miss plenty of chances! If he does that he'll get on a run of scoring at some point.

He has a point. Brian Clough may also have commented if Peter Taylor was not near him.

‘Now Ady, tell me if I’m being a complete twit. How about putting the new lad from Brighton on?’

Yeah agreed evo he has to take that

if you create chances but don’t score and give away silly soft goals it has all the makings of a team that’s going to be in the lower echelons of the division

Shit teams usually give up loads of chances and don't create many either

Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham are the bottom 2 teams on both ..

However Preston are massively punching.. we can beat them but we have to take our chances

Lack of confidence and decisiveness. Maybe thought going to the keepers left was too obvious so tried the other at the last second. Just like a penalty really, don’t fucking change your mind.

This is what's doing my f*cking head in. We didn't buy these players to chase promotion this season. We've kick started the building of a squad we can keep together for years and challenge consistently.

Exactly. No one thought last season's squad was capable of doing what it did. MR making tweaks to the way we played and two players stepping up got us there. Bring on Stoke - reckon we'll pump 'em and have a run from them until after Xmas.

I would tell Wright and the back 3 - you have 5 games together, I am not going to change you - Prove me right

I would play a midfield of
Sheaf and Allen as the holders and Tats and COH as the top of the box (Allen is more progressive than Eccles even in the defensive role, and we will create more)

I would drop Jay De silva for Bidwell
Something like this and just telling the players to take a gamble on a progressive ball occasionally. We barely hit Wright with a ball all night last night. He will cause issues with his height and speed even if he is rusty and lacking confidence.

Taking a risk and conceding possession will also spread the opposition giving us some space to play in to. It seems obvious and I know the staff know way more than me, so maybe it’s more that we don’t have the players with the vision and passing range in midfield to do that, rather than being a tactical choice.

Yep same here. What striker ever goes near post there?

There's a reason it gets struck across the keeper to the far post, and thats because 9 times out of 10 the keeper wont save it

To be fair to robins should have more trust in what he’s done for us over six years but performance levels are really poor

whilst I fully appreciated the concept of a transitional season, this last week has raised concerns the problems could be slightly worse than envisaged

for me robins has to get team selection bang on, which means Lati binks and bidwell in, and Callum if he can start

Think Allen and o hare should be the 2 behind a striker, I don’t think robins knows our best team let alone us fans

I doubt the rest of the championship are green with envy we’ve secured the likes of Haji Wright Bobby Thomas and a couple of championship journeymen on long term deals to build for the future
