What was going on with his positioning for their second.

Was standing way to far to one side, angles way out

I didn't realise he was Irish, until I heard his interview after the game.

Bloody Hell, yesterday we had a thread on how good he's been, one bad game... He gets slated with people saying he's always been awful.
Such a fickle bunch us sky blues.

Think he's been our player of the season so far. Has bailed us out on many occasions and command of the area has drastically improved. Wasn't perfect today but still made a few 1 on 1 saves.

I thought Murphy was poor today. Agree totally with his positioning with the final goal. He left half the goal gaping. Mind you I can't think of a player that played even remotely good. Jordan Clarke played ok but the rest were below average imo. Scunthorpe had a couple of players who took my eye. Duffy, their number 16 was very busy and made strong runs from wide midfield and Leon Clark was always a threat for our back two. Ref was a joke and inconsistent throughout with some very poor decisions especially the handball before they scored their first goal. The linesman should have spotted that too. However, I'm not 100% the Christie incident was a penalty.

Are people really blaming Murphy for the 2nd!? It was a failed offside trap and their striker had a 1 v 1 and should have scored! This is beyond a joke now.

His positioning was poor, you should never leave the gap he did at the near post, so I would say he was at fault.

Irrelevant, 1 v 1 is a chance that should be converted.

Besides, if he was to clear that gap, Clarke would've put on his right foot and put it around him and you'd still be moaning.

From a former goalies, the side you are dominant on (diving wise) you leave more space because you know you can cover it, I can't speak for Murphy, but he could've left that space because of the factor I just said. I could be wrong.

Woeful yesterday, left the goal wide open for the 2ND and flapped at crosses. He has however been one our best players so far this season and his performance had nothing to do with the reasons for us losing.

His positioning for second was appalling. Had no idea where he was.

Can't say if he was at fault for the goal as I haven't seen it again and was down the other end of the pitch, however he was flapping at every cross into the box yesterday

Wrong.

If the keeper gets his angles right and stays on his feet whilst advancing towards the player the striker doesn't have time to think. Most will miss. Get your angles wrong and let them come at you and most will score.

one of the first things you are taught as a goalie is to cover your near post and it was something he didn't do so he is to blame.

agreed la. closing the gap, making the goal smaller, near post covered... all simple things. Defence could have been better, but Murphy has to take some blame. I assume Murphy bellowed at the defence before the ball had even crossed the goal line?

Those who think Murphy is to blame is wrong.

Yes, his positioning could have been better, undeniable, he misjudged, BUT, it was a 1 v 1, scored the majority of the time at ANY level, the defence is supposed to defend their goalie, no one was anywhere NEAR Clarke, so he had a 1 v 1 with all the time in his mind to calculate where he was going to aim, therefore, if Murphy had been slightly more to his right, Clarke (should) would've curled it around him to his left and we'd still be having this conversation/debate/argument etc. I could've finished that chance with the time given.

Don't alleviate the defence from the blame as it was their fault! Fact. (Clarke would've buckled under the pressure)

Just watched the goal again, don't think there was much wrong with his positioning. Clarke was in a pretty central position so Murphy had to stand almost in the middle of the goal. It's not like Clarke was coming in from the corner of the penalty box at an angle.

Three times he came to punch the ball and three times he might as well have been in Tesco's car park!
Terrible judgement for a pro keeper. His general keeping is good but coming for crosses???? change his name to Dracula!!!
