Is it just me but I think our Joe is having a pretty good season to date with numerous performances ensuring many points collected we otherwise would have lost.

We know he makes mistakes but is much improved over last season excelling in one on one and reflex saves.

Yet despite all this I still here ridiculous criticism from the stands particularly two cretins who sit behind me in Block E whereby every crucial save receives absolute stony silence but a wayward clearance is greeted with total vilification.

You don't realise how good Joe really is until you watch his deputies play in his absence - am I right ???

Yes but on boards such as this I think it's universally accepted that Murphy is the best keeper in the league.

Its a well known fact that i wasnt Murphy's biggets fan and wanted Dunn to be given a chance, but lately he has pulled off some stunning saves and has saved the game a number of times. The only thing i would say about Murphy thats bad is that he parries the ball todays a waiting striker when he saves a shot. He's more of a reflex keeper. It has its advantages and disadvantages, but so far i think he's doing very well

He's a superb keeper. All players inc keepers will make a mistake but this needs to be counter balanced with the positive contributions; of which his are numerous and game changing.

I agree. Always thought he was given short shrift by some because of Westwood. Didn't bother me what they thought to be honest, he's a good keeper at this level, anybody expecting more is expecting too much probably.

Anyway, where's block E?

Agree with the OP Murphy does come in for some unfair criticism as do a few of our players, I don't understand the mentality of the few "fans" that barrack our team instead of supporting and encouraging them as it only knocks their confidence Ya don't kick a man when he's down

He gets unfair criticism because he lives in Westwood's shadow.. the best keeper not playing in the premier league right now in my opinion.

£ for £ Joe's established that he's as good as it gets at this level.. apart from the Crewe goalie in the first leg of the JPT... not even he knew he could play that well.

Easily one of the top keepers in this league. Always a favourite in one-on-ones, makes point winning saves every game & never scuffs kicks.

How about Jack Butland at Birmingham? Murphy is a very good League 1 keeper and probably and average Championship keeper. I personnally think Westward was over rated by most Cov fans. If he really was Premiership class he would not be keeping the bench warm at a frankly below average Premiership club. He is Sunderlands Chris Dunn! PUSB

OK.. but Buckland's on loan at Brum so not sure as your argument stands re him being the best non playing keeper in the Premier league?- I discounted him on that basis?
I'm afraid I don't agree that Westwood was overated by CCFC fans-just my opinion - he was subject to many bids at his contract end by all accounts... I think the transition at Sunderland to Martin O just after his arrival served him badly? Lifes about timing.....

LOL , he has been the one of the mainstays of the club since westwood. It was sarcasm, I cant think why anyone would not think he was a great keeper

The way Murphy has been treated is reflected somewhat in the way some "fans" have treated Leon Clarke, who has also come in to replace a "fans favourite, although in Clarke's case its even more ridiculous as McGoldrick wasn't even a CCFC player.

Just wish Murph would command his area more for corners, etc....

id say this, deffo been our most consistent performer this season, hardly made any mistakes and made some crucial saves, much improved on last season.

I would say he's been outstanding this year, but will always have the millstone of "not being Westwood" round his neck. I was never too bothered about Westwood, to be honest. Joe is fabulous with 1-2-1s too. Great keeper.

Well, personally I don't think he's any better than Murphy. They both have their plus points sure, but I'm not unhappy about the keeper we have now to the one we used to have. I think the fact Westwood is rotting in the reserves of some middling Premiership team speaks volumes.

To be honest I didn't rate him when he first joined the club but now I am pleased we have him and I echo the comments about him being the best in the league and I think a prime example of how good he is was the first leg of the JPT regional final as we were in the game until half time and Dunn came on, the rest we know but in three games against Crewe Murphy in roughly 225 minutes conceded 2 goals, Dunn in roughly 45 minutes conceded 3 and that speaks volumes.

I don't think Murphy does get criticised much anymore as fans have finally realised how good he has been this season. We're all singing his name now.

Easily our most consistent player this season and if he continues he'll be getting my vote for player of the season.

That save from point blank range in the 1st half against Bournemouth was one of the best I'd seen to demonstrate quick reflexes.

Absolutely spot on with all statements there SA!

to this point in the season, overall our player of the year..... never easy for a keeper either having to cope with numerous different defensive line-ups.... (and some of those we have in there too!)

With his penalty he became the 3rd City goalie to score (Not counting O.G's) Oggy is a given, can anyone name the third?
