Bit of an unfair comparison of the stats surely?

Different league, different defense in front of them, and a different style of play?

Both have their pro's and con's IMO, and both made/make very silly mistakes in goal.

Thoughts everyone?

What concerns me is that they have left the likes of Scott Shearer and Konstantopoulos out of such a comparison.

Practice makes perfect, and behind our current defence Murphy gets plenty of practice. So I'd say Murphy.

Except for the fact that Westwood was a fantastic keeper, and clearly better, imho. I'm sure the (reputed) £20,000 per week takes some of the sting out of not playing in the first team.

(Incidentally, no issue with KW, but £20k/week for a reserve keeper. If you're looking for where the problems are in football, I'd start around there personally.)

Hm, if only we could have kept Kasper Schmeichel.

When did westwood ever make mistakes???

There's no comparison, as much as I like murphy, westwood will always be better

Westwood was better imo, however I don't think he was ever the messiah that people made him out to be. He was woeful from crosses. He has done nothing since he left which is a shame, because a young keeper like that could have developed really well.

Kasper was eccentric but not excellent for us. Again though, another young keeper that will go far as long as he keeps playing!

Westwood was a quality keeper. Head and shoulders above Murphy. He did make mistakes (I remember one at Forest) but if anyone can name a keeper that's never made a mistake I'd like to see that. Even Schmeichel (Peter) made mistakes and he's the best keeper I've ever seen.

Weird. It's almost like they've got absolutely nothing to write about.

Anyway, Murphy for me

Westy for me by a country mile but I agree he would never be a top keeper but a lower prem/championship keeper. I think Westwood and Kirkland would be more of a fairer comparison.

Truthfully mate, I didn't really like him when he was here. Either he's improved a lot, or I was completely wrong about him. Probably both, but mostly the latter.

I didn't think Jordan Henderson would end up playing for England either.

I was like that with Fulop. Everybody seemed to rave about him but for me he was very average.

Westwood was (maybe still is) an excellant keeper. Murph is good at our level, and hope we keep him - both Irish interationals, but Westwood would get in ahead of Murph every time. Still remember Schmeicals rabbit in the headlights performance at Charlton when we almost went down - will be interesting to see how he fares in the Prem.

Westwood for me, although Murphy very good Lge 1 keeper and good from spot kicks. Would be more than happy to see him stay at Coventry. Hope SP talking Burge's chances up are preparing the fans for Murphy's departure.

Schmeical played well for us then imploded at Charlton. Seems to have got back on track and I think he will be a very good keeper.

I don't think Jordan Henderson should be playing for England.

Maybe Schmeical always wanted to play for Leicester .......... Maybe the Charlton game was sabotage :thinking about:

A no brainer, Westwood was head and shoulders above Murphy, and that's no slight on Murphy. Seems an odd question for the CT to pose....must be a slow news day.

I am sure you were gagging to know what pre season fixtures the remaining 23 Clubs in League One next season would be playing in the build up to the new season and fear not they have posted an article regarding this on the Website..

Westwood easily gets my vote. Rarely made a mistake, Great shot stopper. True Pro.

Being a GK isn't just about cutting out crosses and making saves. It is just as important to sort your defence out. Westwood isn't the loudest GK, but he would arrange his defence. Whereas with Murphy he shouts at players for getting it wrong more than getting them where they need to be. Murphy doesn't always seem to know where all the attacking players are. This don't help with giving away soft goals.

I am a GK. I am happier if arranging my defence stops any shots coming in than making good saves. I see it as my job to stop the shots as much as stopping the ball from going in. Get the 1st one right and you have nothing to do.

So if Murphy doesn't get offered a new contract/sign, I hope you've submitted your footballing CV and a YouTube compilation of your best saves?!

I seem to be in a minority here, but I still prefer Murphy. Just wish he'd stay on his line a little more.

Bit old for it now Never took it seriously like I should have either. In my younger days I got sent off when the ball and all the players were in the other half. I was leaning against the post with a tinnie in one hand and a imp: in the other. I am still not sure that he made the right decision to send me off. Where does it say in the rules that you can't get stoned and pissed whilst playing?

Is it fair to look at the GK in isolation? If you're playing with better defenders than the other bloke had etc. then it's going to affect your stats to some extent.

Having said that I was sad to see Westwood go when he did.

I see them both on a par to be honest. Westwood made mistakes - particularly with long distant shots.

Westwood needs to become a regular player again to make comparisons.

Westood always a touch overrated, decent keeper, being with us always put you in the spotlight as you are normally getting peppered.

Murphy plays like he is on the gaelic pitch too much at times, coming for balls he never should BUT worth so many points to us this season and we owe him massively for that.

Always liked Bywater as a keeper, wasnt on loan with us for long from what I can remember.
