One of the possible Westwood replacement goal keepers Andy Thorn has an interest in, Joe Murphy, has been released by relegated Scunthorpe.

Scunthorpe manager Alan Knill has revealed that Murphy and defender David Mirfinn had told him they did not want to renew their contracts and play in Division One

Murphy has been on the Coventry City radar for several years and with the likelihood that current number one goal keeper Kieren Westwood will not agree to renew his contract, City will need a competent replacement and one that is available on a Bosman free transfer will be even of more interest.

Andy Thorn had previously admitted he would be interested in signing the 29 year old Murphy should Westwood opt to leave Coventry City.

Umm I am a little worried on this one, I have watched him a couple of times and he has been dreadful! I am hoping it was just a couple of off days. Anyone else shed anymore more light on this guy?

Only ever seen him playing V City TBH. And hes not always had the best of games IMO. However all keepers have an off day (although not many have off days V CCFC)

I was in corporate for the Coventry vs Scunthorpe game and while waiting for the man of the match to come up we noticed that Murphy and 2 other players came back out onto the pitch to do a warm down maybe he was just taking in his future surroundings lol

Murphy Good all round keeper but not as good a shot stopper as KW but a better long shot keeper than KW. Over all probably not quite as good as KW but an adequate replacement. Have to question KW commitment to CCFC and notably many have come to view him but no one has ever pursued a real interest. For me that tells me they don't think he is as good as he thinks he is.
Which draws me to the question do I want a player who doesn't really want to be here playing for us?

Westwood's given his all every game so his professionalism shouldn't be questioned, and he's well within his rights to and is smart to evaluate all his options before making a commitment; remember this is a man with a young family so decisions aren't to be taken lightly.
