Perhaps we should go back to “we had a wheel barrow and the wheel fell off” or she will be wearing sky blue ribbons in her hair

Or just come up with a first verse that isn't just the original song.

the words arent that important, it is the atmosphere it creates - a bit like the Gus / kelly doyle songs, and the atmosphere at the end of that game on saturday was excellent

Can't repeat his name surely?

There's plenty things that can go in the first line.

Enjoying people getting pissy about lyrics for a new song when our most used chant includes the names of teams we haven't played in the league for more than 20 years.

Don’t get me started on how we need to update that for the teams in our division.

West Brom or Boro
Sunderland or anyone

Sky Blue song

What with plenty of doom and gloom and the club almost certainly on the way down it is time to tell ourselves that we will support the team whatever league they are in. Our song is a great reminder of Jimmy Hill's golden era but I have a question; Who else wants to revert back to the original...

I enjoyed it.

Yea, lyrics could be improved, but it’s catchy and creates a good atmosphere. That’s got to be the main requirement for a song.

No 1 was Gary Breen... good after a few jars in pub and an away win (Fulham away 2022) but crap most of the time.

I agree, and I don’t see how anyone has the right to be telling other people what do sing, shout, or whatever they want to do.

Many songs are aspirational, about being the greatest team etc, not sure why we’d want our club song to be about now we shan’t be defeated by a newly promoted club and one from the division below.

The sky blue song also talks about never losing, would you propose realism there too and sing proudly about how when we sing together we’ve only got a 40% chance of losing

Anything that can fit an out of the blue “1,2,3,4” is good enough for me

When the sky blues start to play,
Pass the ball
To Jack Rudoni (nay)
Mason clarks running down the wing
Scoring goals
Makes the city sing

Simple!

Really? Never realised that.
So are you saying that 'Proud Posh or Pompey' was a reference to three teams, not two?

I'm certain that the song (at least in theory) was modified for every home game, with the words to be sung for each match printed in that day's programme.

For example, I definitely remember it saying "Wild Wolves or Bolton..."

Of course in reality, people weren't going to follow that, and eventually (after establishing in the top flight) it settled on the fixed words we've had for decades now.

The Haji Wright song seems to be the one that tends to be the loudest around the ground as it's straightforward and catchy.

It's why it works and the Sakamoto one never gets properly going
