After reading Mowbray's comments, I feel more relaxed about this short term deal. From what he's said it's clear he wants to see how this club operates and he certainly has a vision of getting us back to the top 2 divisions. Obviously If he was only here for 14 games, he wouldn't really talk about the future of this club like he did and mention about scouting network and such would he?

This deal suits both parties in a way that if we get relegated, it proves he wasn't right for the job and we don't have to pay him off or anything also he wouldn't really want to manage a league 2 club anyway with his reputation. Also on the other hand if we do well under him and stay up, with the way he's conveyed his thoughts about the club, I'm pretty sure he will sit down and sign a longer term deal under his terms with regards to the structure of the club and his own staff etc.

The trouble with that 14 game contract is, if Mowbray saves us from relegation and we have a decent run with him then at the end of the season he's going to look like a good prospect to a lot of other clubs,
clubs with more money than us. He'll be gone.

Agree on that, but, Who was it that suggested "Till the end of the season?" and what hurdles were put in the way of getting players in? Everything about SISU/Otium stinks of getting things on the cheap and shortest deals possible!

The way I see it after the drawn out negotiations they couldnt fully agree so got a temp contract when they can have time to sit down and thrash out the details with no pressure or time constraints at end of season. The sentence I like is "I'm here for 8 weeks but why shouldn't that be 8 years" shows he's here for the long run.

Mowbray is on a "Win Win" situation with this contract. If we're relegated , his excuse is, "It's not my fault, I only had 14 games to turn things around.....Pressley had 2 years"???

On one hand you are correct , but on another its not win win as no manager wants relegation on their CV .
He will do everything to keep us in this division

I'm sure he said it was initally crap but they had one in place now.






I think over the last year we’ve tried to drive and improve the recruitment policy. We now have seven to eight scouts on the road every week searching for players identifying players and doing the necessary reports on them.

Delighted with the appointment and everything I've read that he's said so far. He's a sensible bloke who speaks very well and he should be a breath of fresh air. I expect us to stay up now and I love his talk of the play-offs, unrealistic as I think it is! He'll motivate the players better, kick arse when it's required and I believe have us much better organised.

I am however massively disappointed at the length of the contract. I would have understood a a deal to the end of the season if he was an internal appointment, but given the midnight oil burning last night in a bid to thrash out a deal and the fact that we approached him, this smacks of us not being able to nail him down for longer-possibly due to salary? Obviously a 4 year contract would have been OTT, but until the end of next season is the minimum that I expected to give us some stability. OK sure, if we go down under him and he's a total disaster, we can get rid of him easily, but I don't think anybody expects (or wants) that scenario and I don't think that it was a factor in negotiations.

although the contract length is short(im sure there are reasons for this) i think we should all get behind the new manger and give him all the support possible for the next few months !
an experienced manager on a higher level is something we havent had for many years and hopefully he will show enough to be given a better contract next season.

i truly believe we have a better team than our position shows and although i liked SP it was becoming clear we needed fresh ideas and fresh tactics.

Just seemed honest and upfront about getting the owners excited and interested in backing and supporting the team and also about getting the fans back to support the team and give them something to be proud of. Well worth a listen if you get chance on the bbc I player

For the lazy:

- About last night: Disappointing result, wet cold night, bobbly pitch, those are the days you need to make sure you don't lose. Not a day for playing attractive football. Unfortunately we lost a goal from set play and Barnsley are No 1 in the division for scoring from set plays. We had some chances but didn't take them. Some positive signs but plenty to work on.

- About Sisu/the recent history of club: As aware as he's been made aware. Met everyone at the top. From afar is aware of the issues around the club, as he's a football nut and knows all clubs. No real concerns about the politics, as long as he's allowed to get on with the job and he knows the parameters he's happy. He knows the situation and what he's got to work with. Got to manage up as well as down, needs a mutual respect between him and the board and try and work together. Enjoyed the company of the people he met (from the board) talking football for 3-4 hours. Knows there's fans allover who are waiting for the club to reignight again, wants fans to start coming back.

- Why Coventry?: Because genuinely thinks they have underachieved. Yes they can go lower if they don't win enough games this season, but thinks he can help us get back to where he thinks we belong which is upper Championship, fighting for the Prem. Taking on a club that he believes their rightful status should be a lot higher. Squad needs adjusting, find players who will get us out of this league, as well as ultimately challenging in the next league up. At 'Boro stuck with lots of players on long contracts, but that isn't the case here. Should allow him to move players around and get the right balance, as a manager he's intruiged by the challenge of finding that balance.

- Why a short term deal?: Had a talk with the owners and the Cheif Exec, the club are in a precarious position and the club is about the fans but from his perspective he's looking at a club on the cusp of L2, he needs to make sure that the club is stable and can move in. If he'd come in and it was chaos it would have been the wrong job at the wrong time. Would've needed a firefighter, he's more of a manager who tries to engage with the players and fans so they enjoy the journey. That said, don't expect fancy football, it's too short a time to bring the players confidence up to the level for that. They need to win games however they do it. Once we're safe we can start to instill the way we want to play, then you'll see more of a "Tony Mowbray team" that gets the ball down and plays football. I genuinely feel the owners of this club need to be given some belief that the club can go in the right direction, and I'm sure that once I light the touch paper and show that potential the investment will be there if needed. But first they need an individual to come in and change the feel of the club. It's all leadership and hopefully we can find that.

Pressley sounded honest and upfront when he arrived, he also maintained it...the fanbase just didn't keep the faith in what he was saying and didn't believe he could deliver. Any different with Mowbray? Only time will tell!
