Hopefully he bring actual exciting football rather than the sideways and backwards stuff for 90 minutes that is mistaken for good football.

Everything atm is speculative, but as such is GG's opinion. Doesn't anybody feel like SISU are doing it on the cheap? Yes Mowbrey is a damn good manager, but surely we should have secured at least 18 months contract to show their intent. This smells of a nothing appointment to me. A clause could have been agreed on that states release if relegated...thoughts?

I don't read it this way at all. SW said we needed it sorting quickly to give us as much time to get these 14 games sorted. Then they can mess about with a long term deal and all the pit falls of modern contracts. Just makes sense, sign it get on with it, sit down in May when we have time. \Happy with it, just hope he is as good as most of us feel he can be.

The talking hype as you come through the door is easy. Putting words into action and results is what matters and the harder part. It is in two or three months time, will there be enough happening to make his words still sound appealing?

I certainly hope so. But I am not going to get too excited just yet. I have noticed over the years there is a percentage of our fans who are very quick with the excitement and optimism. However, their attention span is short and they are equally too quick to reject once the honeymoon period is over. They don't appreciate you sometimes have to go backwards before you can go forward. CAUTION HAZARDS AHEAD.....good luck to TM and the squad.

SISU appear to have learnt their lesson from Pressley and the knee-jerk four year deal.

Maybe, but you'd have to think that Mowbray has some seriously big incentives built in to agree to such a contract.

This is what I'm thinking. Kind of makes sense if they wanted a quick appointment.

Or he's had more trouble getting back into management than people would think. Was in for the Fulham and Birmingham jobs, but got nowhere near. Many owners prefer to hire the up and coming young managers than the tried and tested type these days. This is a vital stage of his career, fail here and he'll be very much on the scrapheap.

Apparently Tony Mowbray's final game in charge of Middlesbrough was a 3-2 loss away to Barnsley.

So if we're doing shite by HT I expect he'll be visiting the dressing room to ensure he gets one over Barnsley

I know he is a very strong character and will not be messed about either on or off the field, he will have to evaluate players quickly and find out even faster about who can adapt to what is being asked... Very tough job as i can't imagine the team to set up or play in the same style as they have previously this season,,so all change and 14 games will be a massive period in the clubs history..

I honestly feel that if he doesn't get the reaction and improvement and relegation is the outcome,, this club is in for a massive change both on and off the field.. I think the length of contract was determined by TM but i also think Sisu were quite happy to do this as they are not sure what they are doing long term at the club...

I think from the sounds of the short term deal is heavily influenced by Mowbray, Waggott and Fisher seem to have sold the club to him with words but with their track record he wants to see them commit in actions before he commits long term.
He's talking very much as if he has the intention of staying here beyond the end of the season but I can't help thinking if he does well he will be off to a championship club at the first opportunity.
It suits the club as they get there man with no big pay off needed if it goes wrong.

Nah. We know the typical interim/firefighter types, and he isn't one of them. Mowbray might not be offered another high calibre job like Celtic, but he could walk into most L1 job openings. Most of our own fans concede that we've done well to land him. He's also probably calculated that it's hard to fail in these 14 games - an underperforming team playing more than half its games against bottom-half opposition.

Another way of looking at it: he relegates Coventry City to the fourth tier of English football, and then leaves the club with no pay-off and a much poorer reputation. Hard to see him going for a deal with so much one-way risk.
