Given that it is a short term assignment, at least initially, it sounds more of a head coach role rather than manager.

He will have to work with what he has, can request additional players but Waggott is the manager controlling the finances and the signings (as he did previously)

I think you have called this about right Grendel, especially as we approached him rather than him applying for the post. I think it also reflects the limitations of the budget at the club.

My concern about this appointment, is he will start making progress...then he will be off to bigger and better things.

Ridicolous - so if keeps us up wins say 9/14 - another club comes sniffing and he fucks off elsewhere, if he does not so well and we go down, then we are not tied in, but he WOULD of been the right man to bring us straight back up.

Honestly I think something might be bubbling away here and he A chose to have a temporary deal and see how we go / see what he thinks of the club , is he the right fit, can he get on with sisu / waggott etc etc, or B - sisu have completely lost the plot and might be gearing up for a sale - we can wish.

Agree plus SISU would not able to afford his wages in a longer contract if we went down to L2 with him being our manager. Would not be justified.

They are carrying out there due diligence which is a sensible approach.

Only win for us is if we go down we can get someone cheaper. Other than that, he keeps us up is back in the game, snapped up by someone else? Great manager on paper for an average league one team. Worries me this.

Yep. Agree with this. Would say this is down to Mowbray rather than the club.

It all points towards them selling up. And i'm sticking with that, SISU are leaving, they're paving a way for new owners to take over whats left.

Guide us to safety this season and then a full season to see what he can do? Surely you just put clauses in to the contract in case of relegation but you don't announce to the world he is a free agent in the summer so that if he wins 10 out of 14 games, another club take him off our hands and we are back at square 1 looking for piss pot manager for next season.

I think it's honourable of him to commit to the short term cause. Why would he commit to longer knowing we may yet be in league 2 next year? Is that where he wants to be?

This way he can see what conditions he will be working under, and the powers that be can see him at work, albeit with not many tools to work with; he'll have to work with existing playing staff, can't be much remit to bring in loan players, the free transfer window to sign free players must close soon (sure it's March time), and he'll get to see what the coming-out-of-contract players have going for them incase he stays longer and has to be the decision maker on their future

Yes I think so, one site says it will be paid out to any manager who is in charge for 10 games or more regardless of whether he is a caretaker or otherwise.

I suspect this is a very shrewd move by Mowbray for all the obvious reasons, and he has nothing to lose. He's an old campaigner with loads of gravitas, and he's not going to be pushed around. I like it...someone else dictating the rules, if that is indeed what's happened. Can't be sure of course, but it's different that's for sure, and it isn't sisu's style!

It's a double-edged sword this, as with all short-term contracts. If he does well, there's every chance that he goes elsewhere and we're looking again.

Saying that, even if he's signed a four-year deal there's the possibility of poaching - it's just that it seems more likely to be temporary in these circumstances imho.

Everything about the club seems temporary at the moment - the manager, half the squad, even the ground - nothing is tied down for more than a year or two. It doesn't really feel like the actions of an owner intent on building something at CCFC...

That Waggot and SISU are pure genius and have finally worked out that the long term managers continually fail where as Robins, Black etc on short term appointments have the most succesful track records so we now engaged on employing 4 managers a year but for just 12-14 highly focussed performance related games

Personally, if I were TM, I wouldnt have taken a contract past that point - fail and he loses very little, succeed and he will be able to negotiate a better personal deal for keeping us up or be made a better offer by a team coming down or another in the champ/L1
I am not sure it is SISU that have wanted just a short term appointment but they probably have no choice if he is the man they want.

Our last two managers have been one let go after signing a long-term contract, and another who just walked off. If Mowbray is planning to use us to get his name out there again, it means he'll have to do well and there's more honesty in what's essentially an elongated trial period.

Contracts largely mean shit in football.
