Very nice chap, always has been and clearly loves his football. But maybe after this, health and family should be his focus and he can be a pundit instead.

What's the point of them doing that now?

Gives them a 2 week head start to find someone I suppose. It was inevitable this would happen.

He won't be the only Championship manager to be given the heave ho.

More of a league 1 or 2 manager now I think, he doesn't need the pressure

Thorup at Norwich got his P45 today too. According to my son-in-law (who is a ST holder at Carrow Rd) the players were playing in a manner to get him sacked. They got their way.... Jack Wilshere in temporary charge.

I’d swap Simms for Sargeant although it sounds like he’s injury prone

Sargent will not be a championship player next season. If we got promoted I’d love to sign him.

Sergeant is a quality player and Norwich know it so he'll be sold for a fee way outside our price range.

No idea where he lives but the Oggy role on his local station would be best imo. In his 60s and had health issues, I wouldn't be putting myself into another high pressure situation unless I had to.

Would have thought after so many years in the game he'd have a few quid put away so a nice, stress free, role that keeps him in and around football would be perfect.

He did well at Sunderland and Brum didn't he? This seems to be his first total failure and he wants even in charge that long really.

I wouldn't count him out personally

It was a firefighting situation really , takeover alleged, appears harsh but I guess a natural conclusion for WBA,new man,and a changed squad to come in I guess?

Brum, it’s too hard to judge because of his illness. They probably wouldn’t have got relegated.

As for Sunderland, they had a year in the wilderness but the new manager has done well with the same group of players (more or less).

Looking at WBA’s team, they were always in a false position under Corberan so it doesn’t surprise me things dropped off dramatically under Mowbray. I’m not necessarily sure it’s all his fault because Corberan was the best manager in the league imo,

I don't think they have a top 6 squad at all. They were in the top 6 solely due to Corberan being the best manager in the league until poached

There was always going to be a regression and they'll need to rebuild in the summer

Mowbray probably would do alright next year with a full pre-season, but the target being play-offs seems a bit silly from their owners

I'd say Cov was a failure. Failed to finish top 6 with Armstrong, Murphy, Maddison and Cole. Then jumped before he was sacked the following season after 10 games failing to win a single game.

Most places he's been he seems to have a poor back end of the season.

And an amazing start everywhere usually

Not to mention some successful promotions at wba and Blackburn

He's clearly a better manager than most out there

Mowbray is a very decent man and a good manager.

I hope he gets a good job if he wants to carry on in the face of his health problems. If he doesn’t then I wish him good health and a long and happy retirement.

My sentiments exactly. Clearly, Venus has been poor when he has taken over here and at Brum. Like Robins when Adi left, you need a top quality number two.

Didn't get sacked resigned. Another example of relying on Venus who was put in charge of recruitment and screwed up.

I know we have a bit of a fascination with ex-players on this board, but if we don't go up I'd definitely be happy to sign Armstrong.

Tbf he arguably had the best squad in the championship for the West Brom promotion in 2007/08 and the best squad in League One for the Blackburn promotion in 2017/18, in fact I've just found an article where Blackburn were favourites at 6/4 for the title before a ball was kicked.

No, just an average football league manager.

I don't think the average football managers have promotions on their c.v do they?

Maybe we could all do it then.

Seems a genuine nice and technically competent bloke who probably gives good advice and insight. That’s all well and good in getting results until the final 10 games of a season when sh*t gets real and urgency and passion drives performances.

It’s telling that many of the bottom clubs fighting for their lives have started pulling results out.
