I really cannot see how anyone can be unsure about this appointment. We are on the verge of relegation from league 1, and we are about to appoint Tony Mowbray! As Hill said - this would be acceptable in the championship let alone where we are, wake up!

Anyone with a world cup win and a few premier league titles would do him fine.

Someone with a bit of knowledge of this league and working under terrible financial constraints, I've been excited about managerial appointments before, where have they got us. Not saying I am devastated it by it just not convinced he is going to be any different to the rest.

Why don't you look at Mowbray's history. Hardly had cash to burn. He took over a Middlesbrough side which did have money to burn under Strachan and burn it he did! Mowbray was left with no money at all, yet still managed to sign decent players for free, or for pittance. So tick that box off!

Knowledge of the league? What knowledge do you want? The most economic route to Oldham?

I'm a Celtic fan as well as Cov & this is an awful choice IMO. He was shocking at Celtic which in many eyes is the easiest job in football. I remember seeing Celtic lose 4-0 to st mirren. Yes he had a good record at baggies but since that he's achieved nothing. I hope he proves me wrong but the hysteria on here is scary. It could be another dowie, Coleman, Reid appointment

Can't say I'm either overwhelmed with joy or disappointment. The job after all is governed by the constraints and pantomime off the pitch that he will have to work with. I wish him the best though........................still can't believe he's only 51, I honestly would have put another 10 years on that haggard face !

this is an awful choice IMO

thats harsh, he was sacked as Celtic manager with a 51% win ratio

now that is deemed not good enough for Celtic in the SPL but id sure take it in League One

people are forgetting where we are

I said the other day Celtic was his one blip. Not entirely sure what happened there, but let's not pretend we are Man United with cash to burn and the ability to choose a manager with a 99% win ratio.

I fail to see how anyone thinks he didn't succeed at Middlesbrough. He spent 3 years there! He took over from Strachan after he had spent all available funds, sitting 22nd and finished 12th. Brought in decent players on the cheap, brought through some youngsters and had a decent 2nd season as well. Feel free to speak to some Middlesbrough fans, its fair to say a decent chunk of them still regard him as a top manager.

We could all have that win ratio at Celtic. Can somebody point me to the rule that says we can not have an opinion on here anymore..jeez! Time will tell. I would have had a go at getting Robins back in, apart from that I haven't got a clue to be honest. Not sure anybody can fix us.

The freedom to have an opinion also includes the freedom to disagree with it. Nobody's telling you to shut up or anything.

SPL then was a 2 team league. 51% win rate for a 2 team league is shocking. You ask any Celtic fan.

That is not good enough for Celtic

Sorry, I'm just going to say it... Who gives a crap about Celtic? I'll judge him on what he does here. But until he actually does something here, the appointment has me excited because of his success in this country. He's done well and he's by far and away the best candidate for the job.

Celtic job is one of the easiest in football. Only winning half your games in a season for Celtic is a disastrous season.

Totally agree, no problem with that, comments such as the following however are not needed:
"Some kid on a Play station then?"
"The most economic route to Oldham?"
"i bet you're a bag of laughs at a party"
"Anyone with a world cup win and a few premier league titles would do him fine."

The last 12 years suggest he will not be a success here, I would him to be, but this is Coventry City when do we have have success? I will support him as much as I have supported others, week in week out. I am just not conviced he is the man to change the fortunes of Coventry City

Tony Mowbray was dealt a poor hand at Celtic, took over from Gordon Strachan and had to get rid of a lot of highly paid dross that Strachan had accumulated and I think Rangers were the dominant team at that time and that takes its toll up there, then he moved to Middlesbrough, low and behold following Strachan again and saddled with a number of the players he had got rid of from Celtic, so another poisoned chalice for him.
