And how does that mean that they don't value the academy? Surely all it demonstrates is that the manager is doing his job again and protecting the club with a long-term contract? It's like suggesting that other managers valued the academy more because they signed players on short term contracts and let them run out. It's bollocks.

So you think the academy should be closed down and yet your posting history is full of bile aimed at Higgs/CCC/wasps because you allege that they have been trying to close down the academy. Are you a schizophrenic? Keep taking the meds.

I think you'll find I've been pretty lethargic on that issue - the principal I've said is outrageous and the duplicity around it - it's clear in my mind whose paying for the development and if the club believe it's worth it should be allowed to keep it at the centre.

I believe there are bigger issues at play

What's the additional cost of running a category 2 academy vs a bog standard league 1 youth setup?

Their long term plan ?. Aren't people calling for TM to be sacked. How does the long term plan fit into losing his job with you and others are calling for,

Just because posters want him sacked doesn't mean he will or he will walk. I think he wants to stay around

Depends how you measure costs. Pound wise the club stands to lose grants but what if we start losing local talent to other teams because they have the category status and facilities that go with it? What if we'd never had Maddison, Wilson, Bigi etc. because given the choice they had gone elsewhere because of academy status, facilities etc. that are better placed to help them develop their skills and career?

Tony Mowbray and Mark Venus have been in the game years,of cause they see the benefit of a strong academy. They have set up a scouting network to recruit in all age ranges in fact they took on three players from WBA last year and this year they have taken on two sixteen years from Southampton hardly the actions of someone running down the academy.

Those players were funded via out time in the championship when we had far more revenue.

Have we made a profit from it? I genuinely wouldn't know.

Every Football Club and every Rugby Club in the country try to nurture their own players, even at grass roots level. In fact the higher you go the less likely you are to be successful.

You have a good chance at League 1 level, which is exactly why you get a split between your own youth and loans from Premier and Championship clubs.

I can't remember exactly but I don't think there was masses of difference in going down to the next tier.

I'd think the academy should be important to Mowbray, especially when the likes of Stevenson are proving better than his actual signings so far.

I can't see why mowbray would.actively want to get rid.of it?

I have never rated Haynes, but this season he has been better than page has so far.

The Academy gives kids and parents hope and organised football practice.
Most don't make it but it gives them a chance.
There's more to the academy than what comes out of it.

Relax and try and think objectively for once

After a brief serch I found these figures, I think there up to date happily be advised otherwise tho by someone with additional info..
Cat1 cost £2.5 - 5mil to run
Cat2 £1 - 2mil
Cat 3 £300 - £500k
Cat4 £200- £300k.
You get funding based on your Category
1 – £775k
2 – £480k
3 – £210k
4 – £100k

A few too many thrown in for liking. But then Grendel never jumps in with both feet without a safety net or get out clause. It is the only way he can claim to never being wrong

The Maddison money will not be used on a single signing - the Wilson money covered some losses that season and the subsequent season.

How do you know that specifically. Surely had we not sold Maddison, Wilson etc then the recruitment budget would have been lower.

I suspect that the owner, and board, mostly not being football people, see the cost of the academy and see 18-20 year olds like Finch and Harries, then tell Mowbray to use some of the boys 'as we're paying them, we might as well pick them otherwise there's no point them being here'. TM, being a football man, knows better but has to go along with this as his budget is set accordingly. Would be understandable in these circumstances if he was (wrongly) perceived as negative about the academy....his real beef would be with the higher ups foisting kids on him and expecting him to work miracles.

It is of interest how a fairly innocuous opinion post gives such a reaction from certain posters.

Perhaps next time I should post "I couldn't give a fuck if CCFC got relegated" or perhaps "I know where we are going with these owners taking money out of the club"

These are clearly less contentious issues to many fans on here.

I note this with interest. I note the contributors and I note the absentees.

No - I don't necessarily see the value of it either.

I suspect very few league one clubs have one of this size and I suspect they are not exactly envious - many teams still have young players play for them without such an expensive solution.

He did it in the championship which was fairly absurd.

I'm dispassionate about it either way. It's more the reaction I was interested in. I'm in an airport and rather bored.

I asked a similar question, what is the clubs plan if we can't maintain the current status. Can we put something in place to mirror the current set up. I believe your category status also defines the distance you can scout players from so would this have any bearing on us?

As a wider subject is The Elite Player Performance Plan helping the English national side, is it producing kids who can go on and play in the EPL. Or is it weighted in such favour of the "big clubs" that they are able to hoover up all the talent and then ultimately a lot fall by the wayside.

I also note that when you make a statement such as this one and "TM should be sacked" and then you are asked "who would you replace him with" and "where is the evidence that the money from Maddison and Wilson etc has not gone to the playing squad" you never respond.
It proves you are either just a WUM or don't really know what you are talking about. I suggest it is a bit of both.

It wouldn't surprise me if SISU do want to get rid off the academy, it would explain their strange approach to saving it (negotiating with Higgs). It wouldn't be their fault it would be Wasps and Higgs fault.

As I pointed out the other day, there are other facilities around. A tie in with Coventry University would seem a viable option.
