We play the game as Robins manages, as gentlemen but we are just so naive and too nice.

Robins historically had to shop around for bargains and pretty much had to take what was available - so we ended up with a mixture of characters.

The last three windows Robins has had significant cash to spend, with player character forming a key part of the recruitment process and it's the first time he can mould the team exactly as he would like.

The character of the current group is questionable. This aspect of our recruitment is broken and needs a major rethink (if not the whole recruitment team and strategy).

Is Robins having more money actually a hindrance to him getting the most out of a team? Is the money allowing him to be more choosey over "player character" which is a flawed plan when applied to a whole team?

I'd say yes to both - on the assumption that Robins is heavily involved in recruitment.

Just seems like one of them managers who is fantastic building a seige mentality and getting the best out of alright players, yet shits the bed and doesnt have a clue when given money and options

We all always wondered what Robins would be like with a war chest

Turns out the answer is, shite

As soon as teams see you’ve got money youre knackered

kitching emc wouldn’t be getting hammered by fans if they were 1mill signings

He didn’t do great at Huddersfield with a bit more money
Now its been spent though, there is an obligation to use those players. Mason Clarke looks like a fish out of water at this level.

The issue Robins has now is the ‘assets’ they’ve bought have to play to gain value, yet they’re not playing very well, at all. So there is a risk there now that you’ve actually just blown millions.

Can I see Wright or Simms going one day for up to 10m? Maybe… but you’re never getting back the 8m spent on EMC and Kitching, ever. So has Doug gone too far having seen the Vik deal go so well?

It is easy to call it when we have been awful since the beginning of this season but it doesn’t look great does it? If we don’t turn it around then we will be in a real predicament.

Correct. And this is the problem when people talk about a rebuild.
Fine when it's because you've sold your star players for big money.
Different story when you need to clear out a pile of shite.

The reality is though, before writing off all the players, you appoint a new manager to try and get a tune out of them. That's why it all feels rather inevitable to me atm.

Well that's the only other option if things don't turn around because they aren't going anywhere.

Edit - though at this point I can't understand why Robins hasn't been allowed to replace Viveash, maybe that would be a first step.

I still think we need to give EMC time.

He may be low on confidence/struggling to adjust to the higher level, I don't know, but we need to give him more time than we have so far, rather than just write him off as shite after 9 games and he hasn't even featured in all them.

We wrote Wright and Simms off early last season too.

I don't think we can judge EMC just yet. He may have been shit so far and that's fine to say, but I'm not so sure we can declare him as, that he IS shit.

EMC isn't the problem, pretty much the whole team looks shite so there's obviously a much bigger issue.

Looking more and more that we need a change every match imo. Wish in someways we didn’t spend the money the transfers brought in. Feel like it would be a lot more like a Robins team.

Should have put the "Maybe" before the question mark because at the moment I wouldn't want to be the manager who paid £10 for both together.

Doug needs to realise that his strategy of buy young and improve will only work with a mixture of signings, Robins himself has mentioned the characters have all been moved on, if we don't get the balance right and get a couple of leaders in the dressing room, King will not see a return on his investment in players. I'd be very interested to know just how much of a say Robins has in transfers now. I think previously Robins said what type of player he wanted and presented with a list. Now it seems the opposite where the signings are presented to Robins. He seems to mention about Austin putting his neck on the line each time we make a signing...

I think I said before. I refer to John Carpenter the Director. No money and tight budget = best work. Money and a decent budget = shite.

It’s a shame - I really like Robins.

We’ve signed good players generally. But we’ve not done it to produce a balanced team. The squad is lopsided

Some people said Bobby Gould was a shit Manager, but 'By 'eck' he could spot a good player.

Stuart Pearce for example, watched him play for Wealdstone and after half hour left the game because he'd seen enough, signed him about a week later.

Don’t think you can seriously level any criticism at Eccles TBH. Plays like he cares, playing the best football of his career arguably.

I said this a few weeks ago, he’s great at getting that extra 10% out of players who are limited, but will give you 100%

player switch ability turn out to require kid gloves - it’s stupid, but unfortunately that’s the way of the world

as you’ve said - creating a siege mentality is his forte. He’s struggled at every stable club he’s managed

That ofcourse is a silly statement to make when he got big things from o hare , gus hamer gyokeres .

Irrespective of the cost they are better and worth more than anything we have now ?

Is robins spending the money ? Pretty sure he had no clue who dovin was going off his interview

That money was the worst thing that happened to us. Instead of our tried and tested method of finding diamonds in the rough, suddenly we were spunking money at anybody we could find. We will look back with huge regret and that financial mismanagement in years to come.

Ok, Robins man management of higher profile players is suspect.

I asked this the other day, since Robins has been here how many players have we had that have gone on to better careers? Who’s at a higher or same level.
Chaplin, O’Hare ( man management if O’Hare last year was awful) Gyokeres and Hamer

There isn’t many

What does it matter?
It's what they do for us under his management that's important, surely?
And at the moment he's got plenty of credit in the bank on that score.

As for his man management of O'Hare last season, he returned his best numbers including a goal in an FA cup semi final in which he ran double the usual KMs in a game. That's not bad going for someone being badly managed.

Part of the reason players haven't gone on to have better careers is because we were promoted twice and many of the players purchased were at a much lower level ?

Most of the players we had on the early championship year's were here in league 1 ?

What am I missing , many players we purchased went on to play at a higher level than when we purchased them
