Although in fairness, I'd take not finishing in the top six of the top two divisions in that time over a top six finish in the third or fourth divisions all day long.

I'm not sure I would. Of course being City I don't wish for relegation because we would then find our level in that league until eventually the league below that etc etc, but I'm sure success is all relative. We've never had the thrill of being in and around the promotion or play-off positions at the business end of the season. I think the excitement that woudl generate even against a Walsall or Dagenham & Redbridge could be favourably measured against the visitfrom one of the top sides in our league or the lower reaches of the Premier League in a meaningless mid-table or lower end battle for no prize.
Let me think about this one. I was born the year after we were promoted the last time. Over the years I have seen some very good players play for us and against us. Would I swap this for being in the lower divisions but having reached the top 6 at least once in the last 44 years, but not seeing the great players and games over the years?
