I'm not sure where we were in Dec. tbh, I remember us being hard to beat and getting the ball out to the wingers asap, very direct, top half of the Championship until Nov/Dec.
Then as you say, it went tits up big time until the end of the season and Thorn stepped in.

Also as wingy points out, the board didn't help matters, sold Juke in January too, I think?

No juke was sold a year later, halfway through our relegation season, to be replaced by the one and only Alex Nimley.

Yeah I thought it was weaker than that! Was definitely loads of changes to the strongest league side at the time I'm sure there was!

Just looked up the game. BBC Sport - Football - Morecambe 2-0 Coventry
Stronger team than I remember, but largely a team of Crocks, and youngsters still.

SHFWF. Looking back 7 years our fans now see a team with the likes of Bell, McPake, Hussey, Baker, Platt and ROD as a reasonably strong side. Ironically although as is noted these players were mostly from the fringes of our squad that day, the following season they were all part of our 'strongest XI'. No wonder we got relegated that year.

It does still make me cringe to read the match report and see the references to ROD missing various chances - he really was pony and trap, how on Earth did even CCFC see fit to hand him a multi-year pro contract?

Must have just seen him in the pre-game warm ups and thought he was messi.
I remember every single game in the pre-match shooting session, he would score every single chance. Yet whenever he played he would miss every chance.
I even remember him going around the keeper that season and having a tap in yet somehow he still managed to miss. He truly was shit.

Tbf I quite liked mcpake could have been a very solid defender for us, but as is well known he spent most of his time on the treatment table.
Hell I even liked Clive platt because he gave us another option, but he was more of a different approach rather than a first choice out and out striker.
The rest were shit at that level, including baker in that.

He did that against 'Boro I think the season after and missed in a "Torres v Man U"-style way. But that was in an actual league game where we were fighting for points against a decent side, in a game I think we lost narrowly.

With Eastwood sitting out the season through eating too much and being unfit (not injured!!) despite us paying for him to go to fitness camp at Lilleshall, Platt being a lower league journeyman totally outclassed at Championship level, and ROD being ROD, it's even more criminal that we sold Juke, our top scorer and one decent striker, mid-way through that season. He was only hope and we flushed it down the toilet to bring in money and cover financial losses. The whole thing reminds me now of us selling Sordell last season - he was our top scorer and the only one looking like getting enough goals for us to turn it around. Total fail.

Yep game we lost 1-0 but it was 0-0 at the time he missed the chance I think...
Yep the sale of juke was a terrible decision and the only good thing about it was that Mowbray kept his 'gentlemans' agreement not to use Juke against us in the game 2 days later.

It really isn't, felt bleaker even than Blackpool. This time I am going to spend some time in Lancaster as Morecambe (or certainly the seafront area) is very run down.

Sorry, should've made myself a bit clearer. Morecambe is the better of the two but I don't understand why anyone would want to visit either of them. Both places are like Swindon or Slough but with a crap beach and as they're in the North the weather's worse.

I agree both are terrible but Morecambe is definitely better.
Blackpool is such a horrible and scummy place, will never be seen as a good day out to me

There is an excellent chippy in Blackpool and.......errr....I like that chippy.

It isn't all glum up north. We have our own climate where I live. I have been here 11 years now. Only had snow twice. All gone within a couple of hours. But when you get onto the mainland there is snow everywhere. Frequently have it where people on here are saying how bad the weather is and I am too hot in a tee shirt.

But in winter the wind comes. Even in summer it can get a bit breezy. It is a kite surfers paradise. We don't get holidaymakers come here. You don't visit the lake district to sit on a beach. So we don't have the problem of rowdy holidaymakers.

People call Blackpool crap. It is. But most seaside towns are. It is Cornwall or nothing for me.

Won't be going there - just bought a carvan (never towed one before), so Cornwall is a non-starter! To be fair I think Dorset has a few nice areas (Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch etc)?

As kids we must have been 'spoilt' by Holidays predominantly in Weymouth and North Wales - Such happy memories. I was 15 the first time We went to Blackpool for a weekend and well, it just wasn't Weymouth or North Wales! Too big, brash and loud.
As a county, Dorset is beautiful - Inland and coastal. To give Blackers some credit, the last time a group of us went there we stayed overnight after the Fleetwood game a couple of years ago (Richard Wood og) and it looked a lot cleaner and tidier than my last visit (Standing on the scaffold planks to witness a 4-0 drubbing.)
Good luck towing that van. Personally I can't wait to finally own my first campervan.
