Yes...good idea.

It would be a good follow up for the Eye after their rotten borough piece.....

....we certainly could do with a bit of a spot-light shining on all this council incompetence/skulduggery/lies*

I've been amazed by some of t he things he's said over the last few years, not just on Twitter but when he appears on CWR. I think he is the absolute worst kind of politician; cannot see the wood for the trees.

Why on earth pump all that money into a station next to a massive stadium and shopping complex which is then useless for either purpose?

Makes you think about whether it was 'on the level' doesnt it? Surely this was part of any due dilligience process....
1) Do we have anough space available to fit station - CHECK
2) Are the tracks going in the right direction - CHECK
3) Do we have trains available given the shortage - Hmmmm ah we will be alright.

Time flies and all that and I suppose if electrification really did take place in 2017 then it's not the end of the world but lets say this dragged on for another few years on top then it's plain ridiculous. The thing that grieves me most is that it appears the real money goes to London and the rest to the so called 7 core Cities. The amount spent on Cross rail and other London projects make this look like the results of a collection at a coffee and cup cake party.

I guess the other side of that is surely you'd spend proportionately to the amount of tax revenue received to an extent

Not to worry, we'll be fine in 2017

There are other improvements due in 2017, which will allow two trains an hour and there are also plans to electrify the line.

150 people an hour then!

They will respond with at least more carriages if they have any business sense. Also the drop in travellers at weekends should enable them to reschedule trains. Once the stations open and demand starts they will ramp up. IMHO

who are these spokespersons from Lon Mid, what utter drivel & naivety,
they are showing to the world that they have a total lack of business knowledge,
when is the Lon Mid franchise set for renewal ?

Just like how you label others as being sympathetic towards Sisu, despite having no evidence at all.

I will happily say that Sisu have been a disaster for the club. Come on Tony, admit that the council have done wrong by your football club

Never mentioned it.
In fact I'm one of a few that say we can get into the PL and play at the Ricoh.

He's like a little kid on twitter. You either agree with him or you're against there being a train station at all. He can't seem to comprehend that people would actually like trains to stop at the station.

If this was always the plan, that the grant money had to be spent by a certain time which was a couple of years ahead of trains being available, then that should have been clearly communicated from day one. Sure people would have thought it was a bit odd but it would be far better than getting to this point and being a laughing stock.

Maton is so one dimensional, toes the party line utterly, often reels off unconvincing excuses for failed policies I've never seen him exhibit any original thinking. It depresses me no end to think this guy is one of the more senior local politicians, sadly the electorate don't see the need to send the incumbents a message at the ballot box. At least I can say I never voted for them, but unfortunately we're all stuck with the consequences of a a single party running the Council for year after year.

The plot thickens -

Decision to shut Ricoh Arena station to fans signed off by council-headed group

"Coventry City Council officer chairs the Safety Advisory Group which ordered closure of council-owned platform to supporters."

just been by the ricoh - The train station has Alton Towers style zig zag queuing barriers
This is all for 75 people an hour

The zig zags will hold i would say 200
so they are expecting people to queue in these zig zags for 3 hours

total cock up

Then the barrier won't be required and you can walk straight in.
I guarantee if there was a regular 75+ customers the carriages would increase.
Last time I used it I bonded with the conductor.

Exactly, at the very least there should be a mechanism for the grant to be revoked and public money returned if certain key services aren't delivered.

Great comment at the bottom of the article (under the adverts) and also a interesting video promoting the |Ricoh as a facility.

Makes you wonder what Wasps were told:

In addition, the Ricoh Arena will also have a new train station to be completed next year further improving access to the venue, with shuttle trains every 10 mins from Coventry Station directly to and from the Ricoh Arena

And this announcement they made with things they had done:

[h=3]Wasps today announces a series of planned upgrades at the Ricoh Arena over the coming months, which will improve access, customer experience and increase footfall.[/h]Located within two hours of 75% of the country, access to Wasps’ new home will be further enhanced in June 2015 when a railway station opens on-site at the Ricoh Arena with direct links to Coventry and Nuneaton railway stations.

I wonder if they want to try and turn it to be them doing it all now?
