Other clubs have injuries. Probably the same amount.

Difference is they either have replacements, or bring them in when possible. When Sunderland lost Stewart they immediately went out and got a Leeds striker on loan.

When O'Hare was injured, we didn't look for a replacement.

So he needs to have a word with the Doctors sat on the bench then?

Isn't that why Maguire was signed? (whether he will play or not is a different story).

I don't think you can blame Robins. We've been cursed by ACL injuries in his 2nd spell (Jodi Jones 3 times, Biamou, Andreu, O'Hare) and players such as Kelly, Dabo & Godden are just injury prone. O'Hare went 2 years being battered from pillar to post without getting injured. Also look at players like Bidwell and Vik, very rarely injured and playing a lot of games. We've just hit some bad luck with all our injuries at the moment affecting the same position (Attacking midfield)

Thought;
Robins mentioned Ryton last week in relation to training.
He said the pitches were hard.
If we are training on hard pitches, reportedly at high intensity, muscle memory will be in line with that type of experience.
If match pitches are likely softer, different type of/more muscle contractions are likely going to take place that muscles may not be conditioned too, thus causing muscle tears. Although this would be minimal change, the schedule could well be heightening the issue.

???

Has it been said what the issue is with Maguire? Just simply not good enough or..?

Robins said he has ability and is a good finisher but hasnt took the handbrake off yet.

Basically needs to start training like he wants to be in the first team and earn the right to wear the shirt like the others.

It needs the players to articulate any pain or discomfort they are feeling. Robins and the physios can't feel it.

Oh Kelly is injured again? Had no idea!

Well, that’s another option down the swanney. Don’t know whether to be relieved or concerned now, to be honest.

If you're unsure whether or not Kelly's injured, make your default position that he is and you'll usually be right

Not seen it mentioned anywhere, but do we have a timeframe on Sheaf?

Thought Eccles did pretty well yesterday, but to me it seems like we are missing what Sheaf brings. He seems the more defensively minded compared to Hamer, but his passing ability is at times fantastic. I also think he and Hamer seem to have a decent understanding.

Eccles got caught in possession at one point last night (surrounded by about 4 players). It actually reminded me a little of what we saw from Sheaf at times when he first arrived. Fingers crossed that means he can develop similarly!

Again a doctor on the bench will really firstly on the player's own feeling about the injury.

We have enough cash for about 18 first team players and every team gets 4/5 injuries so when they happen the rest get flogged until they get injured and the injuries are rushed back to quickly because we need them. Rinse repeat.

It's been a miracle Gyokeres hasn't been injured so far, especially with the treatment he gets every game.
We rode out luck for so long with O'Hare last season which has finally come back to haunt us this year

Come on Fernando-you go to games when players are clearly knackered and he keeps them on.

Shipley and Dabo spring to mind.

You can blame him for fatigue injuries but he’ll be expected to get results and that’s his priority

The small squad isn’t his but not using options of the bench is through choice

Now granted people would be cross if he took vic off for walker
Or took Hamer off for Burroughs
And we then lost
It’s a no win but you can’t be surprised if players play every game and all 90 mins of the game that they start getting these sort of injuries

I'd often wondered if that was why Allen and o'Hare in particular seemed to regularly underhit short balls when playing games, as if they'd trained on a pitch where the ball travelled through a lot quicker than on the stadium pitch.

You don't have to be bad at your job to find yourself training on a pitch different to the one you play matches on?

Yeah it seems pretty obvious that Maguire was signed to complement Allen and Palmer, and give them a rest.

Sounds like he's just not doing enough in training though, which is possibly more a reflection on him than Robins for signing him.

Since we signed Maguire Allen and Palmer have been in good form and then Eccles has come back from injury, with Allen & Palmer being out might now open the door for Maguire.

If Maguire can't get a start on Saturday, he needs to start looking for a new career path.

Mark Robins said recently we have to look at the club from top to bottom to find out why we are incurring so many injuries, he included training techniques, medical advice, diet, pitches, gym work .
Yes the players are putting in a shift due to poor quality back up to main starting 11. They did however have a mid season month off. In reality The manager is reluctant to bring off quality to be replaced by mediocrity.
I remember the Liverpool teams of the late 70s and 80s playing the same line up almost every week and that was with hard tackles flying in .
I think it’s the intensity of the modern game now and the strength and fitness required.

Why are we getting so many injuries? Are the medical team not advising properly or something?

Half the problem is most games we don’t use substitutes wisely. How many times do we use all 5? How many times do we get to the 70th minute and none have been used? How many times do we set to the 80th minute and we’ve still got the original 11 players playing. Use the rules to your advantage

It was pretty obvious that the signing was a stupid one, and many people (not least the Preston fans) were pointing it out. You were having a go at people for having that opinion, and now your excusing the recruitment and blaming the player for not training well enough.

Have a day off.

He was signed without any logic like Cuffey and JWE. His career is clearly in significant decline

Nah it's because they have shorter legs than everyone else.

Maguire does seem a strange signing but I wouldn't write him off yet. He hadn't played much football recently for whatever reason when we signed him, and MR was a bit the same with Palmer if I remember correctly. Most of us thought that was a strange signing to begin with.

Swansea fans did Gyokeres was one of the worst players they'd ever seen so the comment about Preston fans doesn't hold much weight.

It was obviously a speculative punt and looks like being an awful signing, but Robins is impressed with his technical ability but not his application in training. That's on Maguire, not Robins.

The difference in quality between 19 year old Fernandez and Cuffy and JWE is huge. They are the Jamie Sterry and Lewis Page of the championship.

Midfielders O’Hare, Palmer, Allen, Sheaf & Kelly all out / not match ready would have been difficult to predict.

Still think we should have offered Jodi Jones a low basic contract (doubt he’s secured a high pay contract) and loaned him out first half of the season with a recall option.

Anyway.

Any decent free agent midfielders out there that anyone knows?

I KNOW he’s not up to our level, but is Zain Westbrooke a free agent? At least he knows our system and if it’s only as a squad back up it might be a last resort if we get any more injuries.

Bristol paid up his contract last month.

I’d laugh at this notion myself if it wasn’t so tragic.

Edit: training at Walsall.

Edit: Robbie Burton Twitter account suggests he’s out of contract. Ex Arsenal CM.

Desperate times.

Jodi Jones…. What ? We gave him enough chances , he’d have been crocked before we got a home game in this season.

We could always try and sign Peter Vincenti, who's playing in Jersey...

He’s fit now. Playing regularly although at a low level.
