What are you on about? It existed way before the EU as Purchase Tax.

True, but unless we leave the EU it can't be abolished: all member states have to have a VAT rate, or the equivalent, of 15% (wiki is your friend...)

I'd use the windfall to support the purchase of land for a new stadium (dreaming)

Pretty sure they would reclaim most of it anyway.

Why do you think we'd abolish VAT (or an equivalent sales tax)? They wouldn't get rid of it on sanitary products even though it would clearly be the right thing to do so do you really think they're going to be prepared to lose their second highest tax generator and about 1/5 of their total tax revenue?

I think you confused my pedantry with an interest on debating what might happen with vat in the case of brexit.

Its all about whether or not Callum Wilson should leave the EU on October 31st, and if he does, would CCFC have to pay any VAT.

It was also the day Purchase Tax stopped. What a spooky coincidence, eh?

It's not going to stop after Brexit anyway, it's one of the biggest sources of revenue for the government.

Yep, indeed the disingenuous bastards put the rate up to 20% (which they know full well falls disproportionately on the poorest)

It should. It’s a terrible tax, but we aren’t about to bring in wealth taxes under a Tory government soooo.
