after the 1st game we will have a back 3 of.....Willis - Ricketts - Stokes, which is ok.

Up front we will have Sordell who scored 4 league goals last season and his replacement is Tudgay who also scored 4.

That is if Stokes is fit as well...

The last I heard was that he had been to see a specialist who believes that a couple of injections would sort him out.. Failing that it was surgery. That was over a week ago so a further update must be fairly imminent. He's suspended for the 1st game anyway, after that ridiculous ban imposed by the FA for his 'homophobic tweet'. Frustrating that the team has to suffer for something unrelated to actually playing. Big loss for us, especially having to call on that useless carrot for backup.

So if Mowbray thought we could get Wilson, surely we could have got somebody like him?

Most of our issues last year were because of defenders, I don't buy the whole budget stuff as you would think it would be one of the first positions Mowbray would have addressed.
I think 3 things everyone needs to accept is that 1) the budget is tight 2) Mowbray knew it. 3) It's tight for everyone but not quite as tight for teams with regular 18-20k crowds.

After that it comes down to manager transfer policy. We've got a pretty tasty looking midfield and a decent loan away from a solid looking strike force. But everyone knows the defence is most important thing to sort out. Releasing Martin looks increasingly bad but I think Yeovil were still Champ when we signed him so maybe his salary was quite high? Either way we seem to have gone for trying to attract a commanding Champ level defender. A high risk policy when you have to sell/release to afford that and one that presumably means we can't have a lot of concurrent irons in the fire as we can't afford to dick players around/don't have the budget if priority A had come off. So here we are a week to go looking for a priority B.

What I don't understand is this whole 'we have to wait for players to come available on August 1st'. That seems to be affecting no-one else (e.g Fleck or any of the other free transfers previously announced). And that makes me think there's some monkey business going on, I'm just not sure where.

How many of those teams do you expect to be top 6? Meanwhile, Bradford have just signed 6ft 2 Matt Kilgallon.

Yeah they also signed a battling midfielder called Vincelot for 50k! haha
walsall won & are also just about to smash their transfer fee signing a striker for 300k
sheffield united winning 5-1 , plus having a close match with Derby and signing leon clarke etc

could go on with comparisons i guess but doesn't really mean much. I agree we should be looking up the league for comparisons i feel, rather than at shrewsbury , oxford & Northampton. Thais not being disillusioned to where Coventry are these days, byt the way, but rather looking at where we need to be if we want to get out of this league

Incidentally, Walsall smashing their transfer target after selling bradshaw for 650 k - be nice if mow bray was given half of Madison's fee !

Maybe if we can persuade a player to join on or after 1st August it saves some budget instead of paying their wages

It also makes me wonder how much Gadzilla* is on a week? I'm beginning to think that might be a fair wedge of the budget.

* Yes I did just call him that :angelic: and will shout GADZOOKS! every time he scores.

Would Mowbray really do that? Especially when he signed Gadzev / Rose / Jones the season before.

How much of that came out the extended budget for over achieving crowd numbers/Maddison money to cover the shortfall when sums were wrong? I mean maybe that's why our budget is top 6 - 8 if it's only spread over 10 months. Now where's my tin foil hat

If he did I would be sending him an invoice for training facilities, coaching, fitness staff etc.

Yep! For sure, anything he has had from the club I'd invoice him and give the money to the JSBs.
