First off disappointed - we have no right to expect to beat Doncaster, but from the reports from friends who went and from listening to the radio we were never going to win. Yes we had a few chances but it seemed to be against the run of play - certainly the goal was. You could sense that a Donny goal was coming, much like against Burnley and hey presto

I think the SBA are doing the club proud at away games :claping hands:

As I said in reply to another thread I cannot believe that AT thinks we are a midtable team or better. It simply isnt the team I watch. We dont seem to put other teams under sustained pressure, sit back if we score, retain the ball well but generally only in our half where it doesnt hurt other teams, our build up is too considered and slow. We are bottom 3 for a reason and it is the stats that count not perception

We lack leaders on the pitch. We need someone who can drag the team through. In the past when we have been relegation threatened there has been some blood and thunder about the team - currently apart from any of the centerback pairings I do not see that in the team.

Senior players. AT said last week that he expected our senior players to step up their game. Seems that message fell on some deaf ears.

Juke. Didnt have a good game apparently. He is still only young and all players can dip. However for the first 14 games he is the one player that has been battered from pillar to post usually by two central defenders with little support from his team and even less support/protection from refs. Is it any wonder the physicality of it catches up on him?

November looks very very tough. There is a possibility of achieving no points at all in the coming month. We will pick up some but I cant see us climbing away from the relegation zone in November

We have scored 11 league goals in 14 matches (last year 53 in 46) and we average 10 shots in a game (last year it was 14). This just backs up the surmise that we dont carry much threat. I am not singleing out the strikers either, we carry very little midfield threat, often the strikers have to create their own chances whilst our midfield watches on. The number of chances is the key to looking at this for me, it says that the way we play does not threaten enough. King would have struggled this year in this team, because the chances he would have got he would largely have had to create for himself. We look pretty on the ball playing it round our backline but it doesnt hurt other teams, doesnt strech them and because we do it so slowly gives them time to organise. Not saying the diamond is wrong but play on the front foot not the back

Having said I am not anti the diamond formation I do wonder if we have the players in the squad to make it work. I dont think we have. The tip of the diamond is vital in the system and the best of a bad lot is McSheffery and he is well short this season of what we need. So if we do not have the players to make it work why do we persist with it?

AT. Calling for him to go is for me the wrong thing to do. Not sure given injuries, squad size, finance there is a suitable replacement to be found that would do better. However I am far from convinced by the mans ability to pull this out of the fire. Leaving aside the the tactical mistakes, ill chosen words at press conferences etc (IMO) he has failed to get the response from the senior players in the squad - that is a concern. Yes I know he is hampered by finances, squad size, injuries, but the man himself doesnt accept that as an excuse (publically at least) - he still believes we are far better than the results even given all that. Somehow at times his inexperience as a manager shines through and it seems he cannot see the wood for the trees. As i have said before AT is part of the problem and part of the solution

More comments apparently from GH about takeover still bubbling along behind the scenes. Am tired of these comments would prefer nothing is said. I really dont see it happening. Nor do I see KD getting his hands on the stadium

I am struggling to find bright spots just now. So will return to the supporters who are the ones that count. As a body they will be here long after players, AT, SISU, KD or GH are gone. Their support away from home this season has been brilliant :claping hands::claping hands::claping hands:

good read OSB

i agree the jury is out on thorn, i would like to see him given another 2-3 months and see what happens, injuries or not by jan/feb we should know exactly what thorn is capable of with this team

Great post. I went Saturday and we played nice neat football in our own half but never looked a threat bar 2 or 3 times when we get in on counter attacks. With me I feel thorn don't know what team is his strongest and after 14 games that's worrying. We near enough have a full squad to choose from. Christie looked knackered near the end aswell. Maybe wise to give him a rest.

I did think why didn't thorn bring on platt with 20 mins to go because Juke was poor.

I agree this is a great post. Supporters and the ram us what it us all about. I wish Hoffman would not at anything. But to be fair he keeps being asked. I asked him at Donny what was happening. He said "not much but still waiting if they are prepared to talk at some stage. Would rather say nothing else rather than disappoint". Fair enough I thought. He won't go away as he is one of us - been supporting the team home and away for 40 years. Back on the terrace as he has been thrown out of the Board room for trying o help te club.

In terms of GH and a takeover the man is probably being hounded everywhere he goes on the subject. SBT got the answer of him saying that the ball is in Sisu's court if they want to talk he is available, simples, end of for now !

Who would you rest Christie for? Hussey was injured on Saturday and we were down to our last 4 defenders!

Thorn has had to change the team every week-these decisions have been out of his hands, and had a major bearing on form. Stu posted some very revealing stats about this on another thread. We have a very limited squad, and it is likely that players have aggravated knocks by being forced to come back too soon.

As for the "doesn't know his best team"-I think he does to an extent; the front 2 usually pick themselves when fit, he sees his best defence as Clarke-Keogh-Cranie-Hussey, he is on the record as saying Sammy is the bedrock of the side and Sheff the most suited to the "hole". That just leaves the central 2 midfielders, and I'd challenge anybody to perm 2 from our other options who deserve to start every single week: they're all either too injury-prone, too inconsistent, keep getting reds, or too young to play every game.

Plus of course you do have to manage your resources and rotate to some extent: with the injuries we've had, Thorn has done this where he can, but has had very limited scope indeed. The majority of alternative options for many positions (ST, LB) are simply players you don't really want in the side unless we have no other option. We have a very poor squad in terms of depth. This is not news, people!

Yes agreed good post OSB. I hope as club we don't panic and decide to sack AT, we know he is learning I hope he is still about when we eventually do get funds to strenghthen the squad, then he would be in a position to be judged.

Good summary OSB, agree with most of it. I think for me, AT is just simply limited on his choice of players and therefore doesnt really have a 'best team'. The 'kids' cannot last the season at this pace, you can see the effort the likes of Christie is putting in and does need a rest but we simply do not have any cover!

November is extremely difficult but with sky blue glasses on, we normally do better against these teams and lose against the 'beatable' teams.

As for AT - he is in the same boat as Kean in Blackburn, very inexperienced and come in at a time where they have no senior backing. He has got the players working hard but sadlt lack the ability to creat and score goals on a regular basis. If we had money to spend, then i do not think he is the man for the job but he is doing a sterling job withthe resources to hand.

Think that kind of sums it up for a lot of people Covstu

However, we know he's got an eye for talented young players, and if he had some money he would be bringing in players that would specifically fit in with his formation and philosophy of how he wants the team to play.

'We lack leaders on the pitch. We need someone who can drag the team through. In the past when we have been relegation threatened there has been some blood and thunder about the team - currently apart from any of the centerback pairings I do not see that in the team.'

That is crux of the matter, we don't have any leaders in the side, the nearest with have is Keogh IMO, who was one of the few who deserve any praise for his consistency this season. We are desperate for a Denis Wise, Terry Yorath type of player. Without that it's going to be a long hard season and anything but relegation will be a result

Well how long is Hussey out for? I heard he was alright Saturday night? Either way, if Christie is p[laying then who ever is up against him will have a field day, he was fucked half way through the 2nd half Saturday.

As for knowing his best team. Does he? Well i'd say apart from the two up front, Clingan and Murphy i dont think he does. Is Clarke better than Christie? I'd disagree. Maybe defence wise he is but going forward Christie is by far and overall a better player in that regard. McSheffrey is not imo. He was poor again Saturday and was Subbed after 70 mins. Bell before Saturday started every game.

Agree the overall squad is poor and thats where were going to really struggle over December and Jan when the games come thick and fast.
