So Mowbray has given himself no excuse if he doesn't finish in the top 6 as last seasons team underachieved in the end.

In reality, In the crucial department, scoring goals, the team is nowhere near as good. I'd have Murphy and Armstrong over ever single one of our forwards.

I love how the sensationalised headline gets resensationalised for SBT. The full headline read's.

"Tony Mowbray says once Coventry City start scoring they'll be as good as last year's soar-away side"

So lasts years finished 8th. I guess that's the target.

No "resensationalisation" on my part, the headline to the linked article is

"Mogga rates new Sky Blues as much as old" which is exactly what I've called this thread. I'm not saying I agree or disagree, I'm just bringing the article to the forum

The Telegraph's Facebook page is spinning their own website's headlines, magic. At some point they'll both gang up on the print version in an all-out war.

At least we can be reassured they trained until quarter to one on Tuesday. Wow what a working day that was for a team at the bottom, makes you wonder what time they were planning to finish.

Makes you wonder how much they are training.

Anybody know what time they actually get there? To try and make out they have been doing loads of work by saying they finished at 12.45 is a bit of a piss take.

To me somebody putting in loads of extra work would be them staying on the training ground until it gets dark.

They would but can't afford to put the lights on.
It might have to come out of our playing budget
But seriously, maybe he doesn't want to burn them out.
What with 2 games a week and 3 hours of training must be really knackering.
Save them for Saturday and hopefully 3 points.

They are athletes though. It doesn't even have to be 7 hours solid beep testing, being out on the training pitch could be set pieces and tactical things which won't really burn them out if they have a good training plan.

Moggas has stated he would like to pick up a striker from the free agent list so it isn't as silly a statement as it first seems .

We'll find out at the end of the season, it's just opinion for now I guess. Mine is that there is no way the team is as good as last year though.

I'm seriuosly worried about Mowbrays sanity. Statements like these and the ever increasing excuses , even though he came out in May after seasons end to categorically say he will be making all his signings early in preparation for when the squad returns in late June, that he could be losing the plot. This team is a shadow of last seasons, him saying different makes him look silly
I can't understand how he can't see we desperately need an experienced keeper as much as a striker.
I want him to stay and prove that he can turn this around, but get a keeper and a striker of some sort in asap .
It's early enough in the season to turn it around but stop treating the fans like idiots and get on with the job

Just to confirm as my comments may seem critical of him but I am totally behind Mowbray at the moment, just buckle down and get it sorted

More illogical bollocks on here. Even if training started at 10.00 it's a decent session. No point being worn out by Saturday with over-tiring training sessions + the increased risk of injury.

2 hours 45 minutes being classed as working extra? What would it be normally?

Like I said, I am not saying they have to be doing sprints for that long. It could be things like set pieces, tactics etc. Stuff that isn't going to burn them out.

It doesn't have to be two/three hours of intense fitness. The above is not a particularly long session by any means for a football team.

They should be doing other drills, practicing moves, routines, and organisation.

For one they should spend about 17 days practicing taking the ball and aiming for a big rectangular white thing with a net.

He could've not said anything at all or diverted the question? A manager with media training, something that TM would've experienced at his various clubs, should have known how to deal with this scenario.

I can imagine this is a typical question the press will continuously ask managers who have been with a club longer than a season so why make a statement that could bite him in the backside if he doesn't get the team playing to the same standard as the beginning of last season.

If he's going to fill the team with confidence, do it on the field not in the press.

Tis odd.

Last season we clearly should have made the playoffs. We were 11 points clear of the team in 7th at one point.

Now TM is saying this squad is as good as last season's, but at the same time he is saying we will have to punch above our weight this time out.

To my mind last season we weren't punching above our weight. To my mind TM got a number of things wrong and like I say, we should have clearly made the playoffs.

He didn't say they had finished for the day did he?

Video analysis, physiotherapy, gym, warm down, performance feedback, sports science, proper recovery all important things to fit into a days training.

When he says punching above our weight, I think that is a direct reference to the budget available and not the quality of players available to him.

It's hard to believe he achieved that last season and he certainly isn't this. He'd better start winning games soon.

I said on the match thread if Tudgay, who couldn't buy a sub appearance behind MAF last year, is suddenly getting starts this year then the squad comparison debate is over.
