Have we signed a better player in the last 10 years ?
Honestly what a consummate professional, gives it all every game , plays every game and just seems a lovely genuine lad .
Will be very hard to keep hold of him if we don't go up

Rudoni has been player of the season but it is MVE that is ready made for the Premier League. Got that natural athleticism you need to survive in that league.

I love what you’re saying, particularly as I only usually post after a skinful (which tends to be drivel!). As much as I genuinely love the guy, I can easily think of a couple others who rank higher in the better player category over the last 4 years.
As for most important in the current team though, that’s a different question. If we lose Haji, Rudoni, Dovin, Saka….we’ve got options. If we lose MVE to injury, we go with Eccles, Lati, Burroughs. Not sure I’d call them “options”. More of square pegs in round holes.

I've said before the only criticism and it is harsh but he needs more end product . In recent games he's had a chance to shoot or fire it across and hasn't but those things he will get better at as he progresses

Deffo but will help playing with a striker who has better movement than Simms. I like Simms but his movement in the box is incredibly poor.

I get that but recently he's been in attacking situations where he could've shot first time , or drilled a low ball across

I think MVE is an exceptional player for us in both quality and output in the pitch but also as a character to have around. He just seems one of the good guys in the set up. I’m a big fan.

Is there a player that’s played as many minutes over the last two seasons as MVE ? Always plays (fully deserves his starting place), never (or rarely subbed). Are we overly reliant on him remaining fit and in form ?

One of 4 players nailed on to start in the PL (other 3 being Rudi, Grimes and Wright)

Agree on 3 of those but Grimes doesn't have the athleticism to play midfield in prem plus we won't have much of the ball. There's a reason he's never played above champ level.

Id add Dovin as prem ready from what I've seen and the demands on being a ball playing goalie.

If we don’t go up I would imagine MVE will go. We would get decent money I think however but he is ready for the next step imo

We would need Grimes if we reached the Prem. Rarely loses the ball and has a brilliant passing range. His goal yesterday showed how sharp and quick he is. Got the ball and stuck it in the net before they even had a chance to react.

I agree he is good at what he does but he will struggle to do that in prem. Everyone is bigger faster stronger and the midfield athleticism is the biggest difference. We will need players to break up the transitions.

Was watching the Leicester game the other week and their players looked like kids compared to the opposition. I remember thinking similar when we came up to this division. The level of pace and physicality is a whole other level.

Let's be realistic. Most of our present players would struggle. I'd be looking at several upgrades in other positions before Grimes.

Jack Rudoni, Gustavo Hamer, COH (eventually).
I'm not disagreeing with you how good MVE is, but he's not the best player we've signed in 10 years. He's been up and down and had some poor games for us, but since going back to a back 4 and having Saka ahead of him he's really shone through. I really think we need promotion this season to keep hold of him

Vik is the best player we've signed in the last 10yrs.

Not only because of his goals but the money we got for him helped bring in the likes of Van Ewijk, Wright etc.

He is a very talented player and without doubt a top ten premier league rb. He’ll need to pick his move in the summer very carefully as it will not work out for him at wing back.

Hopefully vik is sold early in the summer and we can use the 8-12m(?) and get some targets in

He's not an £80-120m striker. I'd love him to go for as much as possible, the bigger budget FL has to work with in the summer. But let's be honest, he's not an £80m player. In comparison, Man City payed £51m for Haaland and Newcastle payed £60m for Isak. And he's not better than or worth more than either of those 2. I'd love for Vik to go for £80m+, but in reality I think he'll go for half of that. I'll happily come back here in 2 months time and eat my own words IF he goes for big money. I just don't see it.

I would really question Wright as being at that level, On his day he’s a top Championship striker but I can’t see him as a starter in a Premiership team unless his performances were week in week out similar to Sunderland.

Both of those deals were three years ago though. Haaland's was a release clause. Isak's was not but his release clause was £75m.

He could definitely go for a similar figure to those, and if there's enough competition even get towards his release clause.

Personally see him around £40-50m. Like I say, I will happily come back to this thread in 2- 3 months time and eat humble pie when he goes for £80m+, I just don't see it. Even if 2 or 3 clubs start a bidding war, I still don't see his price going above £60m.

As a LW however he can isolate a full back and really damage many teams, I wouldnt have him as the first choice number 9. I’d be tempted to sign a new one

Probably the 3rd best signing after Vik & Gus since the return to the championship

Gonna be hard to replace in the summer if we don’t go up, his recovery pace saves us so often

He’s been a good signing his potential is very high, good pro and pace exceptional

should be more of a goal threat, not a great tackler and sometimes found wanting positionally but is improving and should become a prem player

Thank god he's seemingly immune to injury despite playing virtually every minute of the last two seasons.
