Hi all,
We all know how poor pubic transport to the CBS is currently.
Midlands Connect are looking to reinstate the Direct Rail Link between Coventry, Leicester and Nottingham. I have been approached by Alex Bennett from JFBComms who are working on behalf of Midlands Connect.#
Below is an explanation from Alex. Can you please circulate to your members to see if any would be willing to be interviewed on Saturday on the Tesco's side of the Arena Station. If your members cannot be involved in the interviews on Saturday, they can still complete the questionnaire (attached) and return it to Alex on e-mail.
Background
Midlands Connect plans to reinstate direct rail services between Coventry, Leicester and Nottinghamfor the first time in two decades, by creating a dive-under at Nuneaton.
In preparation for this Midlands Connect wants to conduct a stakeholder engagement programme with football clubs to build advocacy for the project. Part of the project involves creating a fan video exploring some of the benefits of the line for football fans.
Logistics
Date/Time: Saturday 4th May – 11:30 am
Location: Arena Shopping Park, Classic Dr, Rowley's Green, Coventry CV6 6LN
Each interview will take up to 5 minutes.
Regards

Questions
We’d be grateful if you could consider these questions beforehand.
1. How would a direct rail link between Coventry, Leicester and Nottingham affect you as a fan?

2. Do you think the rail link would be beneficial for your club?

3. Do you prefer to travel by car or train to the CBS arena/King Power/City ground?

4. Can you see any benefits to travelling to games by train outside of an easier journey?

5. Is it exciting to travel by rail with other fans to football games?

6. How would you usually travel to away games such as Coventry City, Nottingham Forest or Leicester City? Would that be your preferred choice of travel?

7. Do you have any complications currently with getting to the ground? Could those be alleviated by a direct rail link?

8. Is your carbon footprint something you consider when travelling to football games?

About time, you have 2 cities 20 miles apart with no direct link, surely should be stopping at Nuneaton too. Years ago when it ran you went into Nuneaton station one way then reversed out on the way out to Leicester

Thing is Will it be priced around the same as the car journey?
Or even more if they decide like most service's take the inflated car parking charges applied to venue's on top?

Been talked about for years, nothing ever happens the same will happen again. If it’s not involving London or Birmingham that are not interested. Wankers.

Things COULD be different this time, especially with cancelling HS2.

No chance, they will go through the motions with it pretending they give a fuck then you’ll hear nothing of it again until another few years then repeat.

The last we had these diesel trains were arriving. Then it all goes quiet

Your taxes get spent in London and Birmingham and on the 711 migrants landing from the channel each day, this city is a shit hole. You only have to drive round it and look at the weeds and litter everywhere.

I think you'll find it's like that in most Cities, have you been to Birmingham or Leicester lately.

I’m in a different city everyday with work. Coventry gets nothing.

My office is in Syston and the time it would take on train is an absolute joke. Luckily I rarely go in, but it genuinely feel easier going to the London office.

Of course we aren’t in the same division as any Leicester or Nottingham teams, so not sure it would impact the football much. Would be nice if it were going to be paired with a proper train station.

Basically they'll build a line which goes under a current line.

Tell them that it’ll be handy to have a link to East Midlands airport as well as Birmingham airport in a couple of years time when CCFC have European Football fixtures.

We live and hope in these towns.

They first mentioned a direct rail link to Leicester 3 years ago as part of the 'NUCKLE' development. It also included doubling the track between Coventry and Leamington via Kenilworth.

Nice to see it's being brought up again. Hopefully something gets done about it this time round.

It would no doubt stop at Hinckley and that would benefit many City fans from SW Leics. I’m all for it, but they would have to run later trains than exist now for midweek matches.

Problem is with East Midlands Parkway is that at the moment you still have to take a £20 taxi to the airport from there. We do use it but it doesn’t save you a lot of money when you factor that in.

I've often thought it would be nice to be able to get a direct train from Hinckley into both the Arena and Cov. It'd help me no end during the winter as I'm unable to drive in darkness due to a couple of eye conditions.
So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it'll finally come to pass.
