Discuss.....

No balance. No through balls down the middle for strikers to run onto, no crosses sent over in the last 20 yrds. Is it any wonder we have 'name' strikers who have scored 0-4 goals so far?!

Couldn't agree more. No one runs at the defence and take people on. Limits the chances hence no goals.

Been saying this all season, this is why the 'squad' is poor, a good squad is more than just a collection of 'good' players on paper. It's lacks balance, options, and doesn't particular fit any formation without playing players out of position.

Too many holes. Too static. No link up with other parts of the team unless it's going backwards. Pass and stay still rather pass and go. No goal threat from that part of the pitch (as we had with Baker, Moussa etc). Need I go on?

I posted a long time ago about the basic balance needed in a L1 team. We are miles off.

- Solid, experienced keeper
- Full backs who can defend and are energetic
- Centre halves, both aggressive
- Centre midfielders, full of aggression and energy
- Wingers that are quick and direct
- Strikers, one target man. One quick to play off the shoulder

It's really not that complicated!!!

You make it sound so easy kersleydigs. How is your promising career in football management going?

Agree we need wingers but not sure it's the first time since relegation from Prem we've not had wingers.

I still have nightmares about Scowcroft "marauding" down the wing!

amazingly, wasnt that the year we actually had "success". I am sure when Scowcroft was a winger we came 8th ?

I seem to remember we had Impy, Jorgeson, McSheffrey, Davis, Thornton etc then ?

Yep, been with you on that myself all season long too. Midfield has been weak all season.

I don't have a career in football management. I do watch a lot of football across all divisions and have done for many years. What's your point? It really isn't that complicated. Good team balance, motivation, team spirit is all you need. Whether it's under 14 ' s, local pub team etc

The lack of balance in our so called 'professional' outfit at present is frankly a disgrace. A midfield with no pace or runners/crossers??? Really?!

I mean; if I had to pick a team of players from this forum, I'd pick the type of players I spoke of earlier. They are the fundamental attributes needed in those positions for a decent 442 team at any level.

To be fair, when we had scowcroft on the right, we had sheff on the left scoring and assisting for fun.

To be honest the OP is spot on for this season, other managers in the league with similar or even worse budgets seem to be managing ok.

We need more than just wingers too.

JOB and Swanson arent CM's nor wingers, whats their position ?
