I know everyone's had a laugh but I'd love it if they took that flag from yesterday to Boro. Would look brilliant in a compact away end.

I think we will force them into a mistake on the high press Godden to score and city to win 1-0

The 1st goal is key to the outcome of the tie, but up until that point its a game of patience from both coaches . Both teams are very wary of each other and until a goal goes in both will set up the same.

We need a perfect away performance and really need to take every chance that comes our way.

Going against the grain on this thread and I'm going to say we play the same formation again. I do think that Godden was very poor, but the formula still seems to be working. I'm worried if we remove a striker we'll end up deeper and then it'll only be a matter of time before they score.

People are moaning about yesterday but Middlesbrough are a decent side. I'm personally quite happy to go up there with the score as it is. Anything can happen on the day and the pressure will be on them.

Was going to post the same.... think if we want to get anything out of the tie, we need to score first... but as I have posted a bit ago, feel Robins will be ultra cautions, just aiming to stay in it as l9ng as possible....

Despite rubbishing this world class impression of MFC that’s getting spouted by a weird faction of City fans, I would not vote against getting in at HT 0-0.

Tease them, make them sweat, they open up, we penetrate.

Much easier in a small away end. Derby used to always have one.

I’m hopeful without being optimistic and certainly not written it off. Weirdly at peace with it if we lose. I was nervous that we would capitulate on Sunday. Now that we didn’t I just feel proud and anything else is a bonus

games v Boro this season;-

Home W 1-0
Away D 1-1
Home D 0-0
so it is very close and we've outscored them, they finished 1 place and 5 points above us, no reason why we can't win on Wednesday.

They're a very different side to the first game, (probably say the same about us), and there was nothing on the 2nd game for them.
I don't read too much h into those results.

Sunday was incredibly cagey, I think we'll take the same approach, but will they?

McNair looked top drawer yesterday. If we went up he'd be worth a few million to have in the squad. Point to prove after Utd let him go.

It basically all comes down to the first goal I think. We get it and we might be able to go backs to the wall and hold. They get it and our record speaks for itself.

I put it on the other match thread, but we were so cautious and sat back so much, to the point it was walking and stand still football for them at times, it was obviously a tactic employed by MR,

I think we’ll follow the same pattern on Wednesday, but with the box and a more effective counter attack. I also expect the occasional timed full press too, but ad hoc and in short bursts.

Boro were good, but we gave them free reign at times and other than once they didn’t break us down.

They may think they’ve got more to offer, but so do we.

Afraid I disagree.

Allen and Hamer have both scored a decent amount of goals this year but also add more in an all-round game. We had far too big a gap between the defence and midfield yesterday so maybe we need the extra midfielder to actually provide some support to the forward(s), rather than have Hamer trying to hit pinpoint 50 yarders

And it'd be madness to drop Vik if you went one up front instead. Godden isn't great as a lone striker

The midfield was pretty deep yesterday anyway. Despite Kelly and Eccles sitting Hamer spent a lot of time deep as well, There was certainly a massive gap between the midfield and the strikers.

If Vik is up top he might have a bit more freedom to roam left, right and centre, rather than making sure he and Godden weren't trying to occupy the same space.

I'm pretty sure MR will set us up to keep a good shape and not leave any gaps for the first half, regardless of formation or personnel. Go in at half-time without them scoring and their crowd may start to get a bit restless and then see if the gaps appear to exploit. It could be a bit of a dangerous tactic but what he will go with.

I think both managers are scared of conceding that first goal and having to be more expansive and leaving gaps. Both teams can create chances if given the space. Personally I'd probably be a bit more willing to leave that space if I were Boro as they've scored a lot more than us. We've had plenty of games we should have put to bed but missed really good chances.

Be interesting to see the effect the crowd has. It will be rocking in there, CBS aside, it's the noisiest ground in the league and under lights for a game like this they will be proper up for it.

Could work in our favour. Massive expectancy and with that, pressure. Could really suit the way we set up.
