Wouldn't surprise me if Sky have been lubing everyone up this season with the 12.30pm kick offs to make them the default for the Championship next season.

Ok, slight exaggeration, but it’s been a long time since the last Championship games of the season were at 3pm (certainly not since we’ve been back in the Championship).

No chance. Next season will be the same format as this season. The current 5 year TV deal runs out in 2028/2029 so no significant changes until after that.

So you think Sky, turning over tens of billions and part of one of the biggest corporations in the US, are going to collapse within the next 4 years? Right
.

The EFL/Sky deal is done. Signed. Sealed. Committed. Fixed. I’m not sure why that is so difficult to grasp.

It isn’t going to change until 2029/2030 at the earliest.

I don't mind the 12:30 kickoff. It will give us an extra 2 and a half hours celebrating having Sunderland in the playoff SF.

The point will come soon when the use of firesticks forces the change. The technology to watch free live football is always one step ahead, the genie is out of the bottle.
I think the 3pm traditional slot for games will be the norm again. The blackout will be removed and the armchair fans will be able to pay per view to watch any match at home, in the pub, on there phone or whatever.
Nothing replactes going to the game, so as long as ticket prices are reasonable, attendances will always remain strong and probably grow.

I mean look at ours. I’ve never watched so much illegal football since Covid made it normal to stream games but attendances are at record levels and I wouldn’t miss a home game.

The removal of the blackout might happen eventually but is years away. The EFL have signed up to a long-term deal that helps them maintain the blackout to protect the lower parts of the pyramid and is extremely lucrative for them. Why are they going to step away from that when they’ve got another 4 years of guaranteed income at record levels?

Sky have the rights to the same number of games next year as they had this year, so how are there going to be more changes?

It's a signed and agreed contract, there will be the same number of games live on TV next year as there are this year.

Also why would Sky want more FL games? Unless they create new channels or timeslots which isn't going to happen they would just been shown during the already set up SkySports+ slots and the viewing figures for some of the games means it isn't really worth getting more games on that platform.

Fortunately, neither me or you get to have any say in that. Ultimately, it will be decided by Sky and their deep pockets.

It’s a waste of breath trying to use facts, it’s like banging your head on a wall. Just let him carry on with his conspiracy theories.

The fact that the amount of TV games is locked in for the duration of the deal.

Of course they can. But Sky won't want to pay more for the contract already signed and the football clubs won't want more games to be shown/have more games rearranged from the normal times and dates.

Agreed. Also, when was the last time a TV deal was renegotiated/changed within the contract term? There’s also a huge amount of planning and logistics behind the scenes that will have been organised & contracted on the basis of a five year term.

It doesn't happen much especially with Sky.

If the viewing figures are high for the Championship games there may be even more money available but they would want something in return. These negotiations will start in a couple of years or so. Hopefully they will see the value of more competitive games than the Prem and offer more with the Championship sides giving up more rights. Not best for us supporters having our plans changed or missing out on 3pm Saturday games but it could close the gap in the finances a bit.

The press were saying the 3pm blackout was going to disappear soon not a couple of months ago.
Anyone know what that claim was all about.

I would suggest “the press” are talking bollocks. The earliest change might be 2029/2030, so don’t think this qualifies as “soon”.
