Hey Boro fan here, apprently we are getting this Cranie, but il admit I know nothing at ll about him. Was he one of your better players last season? What position does he play, all the reports have him down as a CB and fullback. And what are his attributes? Strong, quick, good in possesion etc?

Thanks!

He played mainly at centre-back for us all though he can be deployed in both full back positions. He's not the most physical of centre backs but performs his job well, definitely a Championship standard defender. He's reasonably good with the ball at his feet also and can play in holding midfield if necessary.

Centre half. Decent player. Needs a good partner with a good understanding tho. Struggled badly with certain players but found common ground with Keogh. Decent in the air. Bit sleepy at times. Nobody seems to bothered he's gone to be honest which says alot

Very classy centre back. His positional sense is very good. Play him alongside a strong centre back who wins all his headers (like we did with Keogh) and he'll be a good foil.

His best attribute for you lot is him not signing for you. Great at our level but at your level he will be lost. Better off checking one of the Sheff clubs for cheapness. Or maybe Portsmouth as they don't seem to exist apart from debt to everyone.

Does his job well, will be a good signing for anyone in the championship and genuinely gutted we've lost him. He's not a fans favourite and doesn't dive into tackles etc. He's a neat and very tidy player.

Sounds like he will be similar to Matthew Bates then, Bates just suffered another cruciate injury (his 3rd?) and hes also out of contract now so its unlikely we will be seeing him for along time if at all.

Bates is excellent, we missed him horribly when he got injured which is his main problem, injury prone. We thought hed got passed it after a solid run of games but its came back with a vengeance.

Underrated I feel by a lot of Cov fans - because he doesn't dive into tackles and perform as a 'lionhearted' centre back I feel his contribution is partly missed by a lot of people. Excellent partnership with Keogh (who gets noticed more for his last ditch blocks etc.). Good in the air for someone who is only 6'0'', comfortable on the ball and reads the game well. A genuinely big loss for us, and will be a good signing for any Championship side.

It's hard for Cov fans to talk good off ex players I've found from these forums! He was a quality cb for us last season despite the fall from the championship. Had an excellent partnership with Keogh, if you find him a good partner in cb he gets on with he will be solid in your defence. All I will say is we did get relegated!

He is a decent player, can play centre back but has also appear red at left and right back. For free, he is a great signing

Cranie is a very good footballer and possibly his best attribute is his reading of the game and situations. An excellent addition to any championship team

An intelligent defender rather than a gutsy one. Won't go making last ditch tackles, but shows composure with the ball and as Sutty says, good positional awareness.

He is ok, I wouldn't rely on him to be your main centre half though. Doesn't really show any leadership qualities and isn't very physical. Personally I prefer him at RB as his 1v1 defending is usually very good.

Yes but as an attacking outlet he's about as useful as Murphy

Easily Championship class, so you'll be fine. Never complains - his position is CB but for his first 2 years with us he was hardly played there and just got on with his job. No melodramatic tantrums or prima donna moments.

Quality player. By far our best defender over the last couple of seasons. Calm, collected, is the brains I Keoghs brawn and often bails him out after another rash decision.

Ignore anyone who says he's anything other than a top class Championship level defender as there are a certain segment of city fans for whom the only discernible talent a footballer is allowed to have is "a big heart" or "can run all day".

Wasn't Mstr Bates the one who liked to get his thing out on camera? Middlesbrough must be exciting.

Cranie is a 'footballing defender', likes to play the ball but can mix it a bit. Laid back style, which leads to the odd brainfart. Mostly he has improved in this respect.
