The whole discussion is about a ‘model’ to follow-that isn’t one. You have an example of a side that mostly used free transfers to get promoted and eventually stabilised in the top flight despite having no tycoon and small crowds. There isn’t really another one around-once in the PL the parachute payments and TV money allow you to spend more

Nor is Burnley’s they spent 115% of their income to get their in the first place and wages there have sky rocketed. In fact they were spending probably 3 times more 10 years ago than us this season

There isn’t a business model to get promoted other than spend above what you earn

Er they spent £27 million on wages? Which was miles over the revenue for the year through non parachute payments?

IMO the next 3-4 seasons will be tough. Will be a shock for a lot of our fans not to be winning most games. Some were whinging early last season!

We may become a champ/L1 yo-yo club but we may be able to consolidate into a bottom third or mid table championship team. As good as the ethos and systems are at the club the championship seems broken financially and teams are spending millions we don’t have. We will stick to our guns and bring on young players, turning over 2-3 a season, to bring in funds to reinvest. If we can keep doing this while building the scouting network, improving facilities etc hopefully we can become a solid champ club on sound foundations and build intelligently from there to start challenging the top 6.

I have a feeling Bapaga will be worth enough in a couple of years to pay for most of a new stadium. If we can consolidate and either get the process of planning/building started or somehow a stake in the Ricoh then SISU might finally depart.

The unknown for me is how much progress the young players are capable of, confidence and their ability to keep playing the way the management want them to against better opposition

The only players who may well lose some of their abilities are kelly mcfadzean and Godden of the first team, everyone else has the ability to improve with age and greater strength

And I’m far from saying mcfadzean Kelly and Godden are too old

Slightly off topic, just wondering who was the last team to get promoted from league one to the Championship, then following season promoted to the Premier league?

Watford did this 98, 99. And then back down again, beating you lot on the last day of the season as we dropped.

Might have been Southampton about I think they were promoted from division one in season 2010/11 and promoted again from the championship.

You never know, miracles can happen.

I'd settle for a proper plan for a new stadium.

Last team to go between the two divisions back to back was Sunderland.

How do you think Watford will get on this season?

Bookies have us 6/1 for relegation which equates to about 8th from bottom.

That will do me!

Shef Weds 9/4 - they would have finished bottom if they had -12 last season

Little bump on this. Mostly accurate and fair reflections although Bury & Derby may have got just a little carried away... Nice to see ccfcisparks doom and gloom isn't a new phase I had only just noticed. He's been going strong since before the start of the season

Bottom was a bit of overexaggerating, but funny to see I'll probably be proven right about us getting relegated

Not for me, bottom half finish maybe 16th/17th... But we will keep improving over the season and the following season push on to mid table top 10

People really are underestimating how strong this league is

Weren't far off , I don't think we Improved gradually rather stayed at a level for too long due to injuries , but we improved when it mattered

One thing is for certain - progress is required and the manager cannot justify a lower league placing next season

Get to the end of the season and still in the Championship and some firm progress on coming back to Cov, either by something happening at the Ricoh or them surprising everyone one and actually putting in a planning application, and I'd be ecstatic. Especially if we can go into the last couple of games already safe.
