Cheers deano. He must have been gutted in the semi final against us.Done ok for us as a manager.Thought he was unlucky to get the sack although he did sign Chris burchill not his finest signing

Good guy Micky Adams, inspired signing in Dennis Wise and a decent finish of 8th in the Championship.

Lots' of poor players signed by lots of managers.

He has Mcsheffrey sold with 2 days of the transfer window remaining and had to sign fast. He bought Kyle and McKenzie.

Kyle was widely ridiculed and McKenzie not. Neither were good.

He was a reasonable manager poorly treated.

Like most managers at Coventry

We would have had to have been very unlucky to have had that many bad managers.

No we have had many many bad managers -- one that gets the team to 8th place isnt one of them.

Became a victim of his own success in 06/07 when the purse strings were as loose as they had been since 2001/2. Kyle and McKenzie were the signings which he is most remembered for, perhaps unfairly as Sheff was sold near the end of August.

First season at the Ricoh a great accomplishment on a very tight budget. Wise and Hutchison were inspired signings.

Don't believe all the managers were that bad they have had no money have had their best players sold from under their feet, and then were made scapegoats by the mismanagement at the top.

An average manager who was past his sell-by date at the time of his sacking.

His final 14 games gave us an 0.85 points-per-game average, a goal difference of -10, and plummeting down the table. This was amidst strong rumours, regularly reported by the media, that he'd lost the changing room.

The 8th place finish is one of the great red herrings in our modern era. Three of the wins in the final four games were against mid-table, nothing-to-play-for opposition, and we jumped three places on the final day.

The likes of Hutchison and Wise carried whatever success he had, but it's a real stretch to credit Adams with that. We're not talking about revelatory players plucked from obscurity in the Irish leagues - they were premium players who would have bolstered the stats of any manager.

He was alright. He wasn't hapless like Thorn, but didn't bring anything exceptional to the job either, and he was played out by the end.

I just feel bad for you when I see a response as insecure, lazy, aimless and feeble as that one. You ought to stay away from discussion if your ego cannot handle dissenting opinion.

Nothing feeble about it when you play down one manager's achievements for reasons which could easily be applied to the one you still want hired.

You can say what you like or dislike about Adams but he has a pretty good record and getting teams promoted. Not everyones cup of tea, and did make some shocking signing for us. Who remembers BarnsleyGate... 'You don't know what your doing' As Andrews came on. Two minutes later he scored, Adams with hand to ear... beginning of the end.

The 8th place as mentioned above is a huge red herring, we were 12 pts off the play offs!

We started the season as relegation contenders. The Championship in 05/06 was a fair bit stronger than 03/04.

Black and Adams aren't comparable in the least, whether it's the contrast in budget, tenure, expectations, playing style, or fallout.

Black's budget was practically non-existent; he certainly didn't have the luxury of bringing in high earners like Wise and Hutchison.

As for doing better: Adams averaged 1.26 points per game; Black averaged 1.54 points per game.

Use this logic and Bournemouth should have sacked Eddie Howe after the 5 straight defeats (which took them off the top and out of the playoff positions) - no they had patience which was rewarded with 8 straight wins and promotion with one to spare.
No wonder this club is sliding down the league - perhaps it's just rewards for such hire and fire policy adopted by CCFC.
8th position a failure, no our best result in 11 years in the championship.

Micky has done the unbelievable with a club that spent the early part of the season in Administration, losing players last summer etc etc.
Strange when Micky was at Sheff U - Port Vale dropped from the play off positions to below mid table, he comes back and they are back in the playoffs and promotion position - just a coincidence is it not.

An alternative view is that while at Sheff Utd. He took a shit team....made about 8 changes...and made them even worse.

As Colonel Mustard correctly points out....Adams 8th place finish is much over-hyped by his city supporters, who also seem to gloss over the "open secret" that he'd lost the dressing room....

We also finished on higher points totals with other managers during the championship years....and Adams probably had the biggest budget of all of them.

If city had of stuck with Adams....we'd have been relegated.

It is not logic; it is subjective and contextual. Most managers reach a point where the fanbase feels they have shot their bolt. MA hadn't won over much goodwill with his ear-cupping antics, brand of football, Ibiza pre-season trip, and ongoing rumours of player revolt (reflected in the performances once would think).

There was no reason to believe that further patience would have resulted in success. CCFC were patient with the likes of Coleman and Thorn to disastrous effect, even though it was clear that they were tapped out long before their sackings. There is a strong distinction to be made between a manager on the wane and a manager who is starting out, or who has earned more patience, or has legitimate reasons for the team's decline (e.g. multiple injuries).

No wonder this club is sliding down the league - perhaps it's just rewards for such hire and fire policy adopted by CCFC.

Agreed - sort of. The problem has been in not sticking with the better managers for longer (Black, Nilsson) and not firing the poorer managers sooner (Coleman, Thorn).

8th position a failure, no our best result in 11 years in the championship.

Nobody said 8th position was a failure, just that it wasn't a particularly special campaign. We were 12 points (and +22 GD) away from 6th spot; the same difference at the other end of the table being 20th spot. It was a humdrum, midtable achievement carried by Dennis Wise.

Micky has done the unbelievable with a club that spent the early part of the season in Administration, losing players last summer etc etc.

Glad that it's working out for him there. No reason why a manager can't succeed at one club where he fails at another (perhaps Huddersfield fans are beginning to wonder about that with Robins).

He had a much, much, much, much, much bigger budget-and totally blew it. For every Wise there is a Kyle and a McKenzie.

Fair play to him though, he deserves his promotion this year. Seems to have turned it around after his diabolical 2nd spell at Brighton. And the poor soul looked close to sobbing his eyes out on Late Kick Off last night.

I see Birchall "made" the winning (own) goal. Bit of a Lloyd McGrath situation there.

About the only decent thing he did do! Didn't like the man. Man management skills didn't strike me as being great. Heard several players didn't like his attitude towards them either.

Extremely cocky (and ex Leicester)

I assumed we were talking purely about Adams' 05/06 season, purely to make the comparison with Black more valid. The Adams budget that year was hardly colossal and relative to the rest of the division was among the smallest; the same couldn't be said in 03/04.
