GARY McSheffrey has been told it could take up to three weeks to recover from his knee injury, effectively ruling him out for the rest of the season.

But caretaker boss Andy Thorn says he wouldn’t be surprised if he makes an appearance before Coventry City bid farewell to their 2010/11 campaign on May 7.

“It could be a three week job and if he doesn’t play again this season it will be a blow for Gary and the team because he has been terrific and a big part of what we have achieved,” said Thorn, who revealed that a scan showed no major ligament damage to his left knee that opened up slightly during a block tackle with Portsmouth’s Dave Kitson.

“I know Gary is happy with the results of the scan which showed it is not that bad and he was certainly smiling at the game on Saturday.

“Ligaments are a tricky one and sometimes a break is easier to come back from but we will look after him and play it day by day.

“Gary is experienced enough to know his own body and he’ll be ready to play when he says and it wouldn’t surprise me if he came to me and said he was ready before the season is out.

“I have been really impressed with his hunger and desire, just as I have the rest of the boys who all want to do so well.”
