We were never ever going to sign Armstrong permanently, so it’s a moot question. It’s like asking who we’d rather have out of Callum Wilson and McNulty...

For me, McNulty, I think he suits our system perfectly and think he’ll score a good amount of goals in L1 with us (if we get there).

Even in his purple patch he had a good few scoreless games. He got found out second half of the season.

1 in 2 for Blackburn again now though. Think it's the type of player he is - a finisher. Has a good scoring record whenever he's played in a team playing well: First half season with us, 2nd half of the season with Blackburn's L1 galacticos.
Average record with Barnsley in a pretty average team.
Poor record in an awful Bolton team and during our spontaneous combustion.

These short nippy strikers are never the type of player you build a team around, more the 'final piece of the puzzle' type player.

He has though only scored I think in 6 games for Blackburn in 20 appearances

It's kind of what I meant, not the sort of player to nick you a 1-0 when the going is tough but will grab you a brace when you win 3-0

Armstrong's goals for us relied a lot on the defence being split open and him being put through on goal.

We haven't scored many like that this season.

Yep agree with Nick these League two lumpers don't exactly make for a counter attacking football that Armstrong was a master of - but Sparky like Armstrong never gives up on a dead ball - its a rhetorical question so we have Sparky and by god he's been good for us fans !

My fav goal in recent years was AA vs Posh. The late winner. The match where we were 2 goals down. Created that winner out of nothing!

His form dived that season in correlation to the whole teams.

His form did dive and I think that's a good example of why you shouldn't overplay young players.
MR has been criticised for resting Bayliss and Shipley but you have to do it if you can

For me there’s no discussion to be had here, not a criticism of McNulty.

But Armstrong is on a completely different level.

Close call for me. But just give it to McNulty. He seems to have come forward this season. The further the season has gone the more confident he has become. You think he is going to take the ball forward or pass it.....then it hits the back of the net.

Armstrong was very good. But he played qith other good players. You knew he was going to run at players. But he frequently ran into dead ends. And other players couldn't keep up with him so there was a lack of players to pass to.

A cross between the two of them would be my choice.

Really like them both but it's Armstrong for me. McNulty has been class for most of this season and really want us to hold onto him, but Armstrong just had so much fun with it all and looked far better than League One in all aspects. You felt confident in him taking every chance he got, whereas McNulty is still pretty shakey at times. Would be interesting if he'd score as many in League One.

I've have David Mcgoldrick, because he scores when he wants.

Armstrong... he’d have taken most of those chances McNulty was snatching at at the start of the season.

Also AA was clinical against better opposition. McNulty v League 1 is unproven

Mmm, like has been already said Arma had plenty of chances created for him, done it at a higher level but had a barren spell and burnt out towards the end. McNulty has made a lot of his goals himself with some clever "opportunist" strikes. Difficult one but I'd go McNumpry paperwork.
