I think it would be a good signing, it's clearly an area we need more depth and experience. James has played a de ent amount of games over the last season or 2 so should be up to the pace. The international break would be perfect time to get him in and up to speed as well.

The only reason I can thing why this wouldn't be sanctioned is if the club is planning something for Jan and the reported 12-15k wages James is looking for might not allow for that additional Jan signing within our budget.

People are pissed off we have no midfield. That's fine. It's not a personal vendetta against Doug, it's People rightly asking why was it neglected

It was. It was one of 3 maybe 4 songs all game.

I don't think I would sign him to be honest. 33 without a club, not played since April, no idea what level of training he's been doing. I just cant get out of my head how bad the unattached players have signed in the past have been.

3.5 years ago I'd have snapped your hand off.

This is the frustration isn't it. Alongside the complete aversion to loans

For me it's where it shows King is new to football and his understanding of it. It's all well and good having a model, and we're all glad we have it. But you can't treat a football club the same as other business, because not having experience or borrowed quality will mean (in my view) you won't get the desired outcome

The aversion to loans will be tested if the 5 year plan falls behind schedule

He’s bored and overworked, the poor dab.

Saying that, a hefty sneeze upon Sheaf and he’d be out for 6 weeks. His legs have become crumbly breakfast cereal.

3.5 years ago we chose Gyokeres over a 3 year contract for Matty James at £20k p/w
We also had Hamer / Sheaf in midfield

we are where we are now

Exactly.

The business model will count for nothing either if we're scrambling around at the bottom with relegation looming and huge areas of empty terracing at the CBS.

It's all about fine margins and right now we're nowhere near good enough.

If he was the same player we had 3 years ago then I'd be fine with signing him, but I'm not so sure now. Much depends on our real ambitions for the season, as he's more a player you'd sign to keep you in the Championship, rather than one thats going to lead to us challenging for promotion.

If Matty James does come in he in reality is a suitable , experienced Liam Kelly Replacement who would offer leadership (which is lacking throughout) DK business model isn’t going to alter from what we have tried to do over the summer and we may still be in for players in January who we couldn’t get over the line last week . Is it ideal - no but we are where we are …

Why are people acting like if he signs he is going to be a first choice player.

He should be a solid Sheaf deputy is the deeper lying role which will allow + Torp to play much more forward than he does at the moment and thus playing more to his strengths. In the Oxford cup game Torp looked much, much better with a proper deep lying midfield next to him.

Yes but I’m sorry it’s needs must. Sometimes you have to be flexible, and as I’ve said not every player has to be 23 on a 5 year deal

Trouble is if we sign him and don't win any of our next few games you will be the first on here to slag the club off for signing him.

Although I'm not enthused by signing a 33 year old freed by Bristol City, if MR does decide to sign him then I'll get behind him and hope he's as good as he was 3 seasons ago.

The midfield is short of suitable players and the team generally is short on leaders. He is an inexpensive way of adding some of both.

He clearly isn’t our first, second, or even third choice target but needs must and we cannot hope to get through to January with things as they are.

We shouldn't stick rigidly to the model. Bassette fits the model but it's not a position where we needed another player. We're not a finishing school for young players. We have to succeed in a competitive league
The Bassette transfer showed that we were operating a ‘best available’ transfer policy. Midfield is a difficult area to sign for and the obvious candidates to bring are out of our price range.

We know of 2 high quality targets that slipped our grasp and we don’t know what else went on. Had Sheaf left ‘apparently’ Kypriannou was lined up so it’s probable that potential signings just didn’t pull through and we obviously kept Sheaf.

I’d much prefer us to sign ayers when it is 100% on at the right time and place. The last thing we need is to sign a player on big money for it to not work out because we’ve rushed the process in desperation. It’s an extreme example but it’s what Man U have done badly in recent seasons. They’ve identified the right players but in desperation have paid well over the odds with Antony being the best example.

An experienced player like James makes a lot of sense for a 1 + 1 year deal. He’s better than 1 of our midfielders already (Allen) and an upgrade on Kelly this year.
