Good article

Is he a better bet for that role than kelly for next season. I adore Kelly so it’s a hard one and I bet robins loves him too

Matty James opens up on Leicester City exit and Sky Blues future

The 29-year-old Leicester City midfielder admits it will be hard to leave his beloved Foxes this summer as fresh start on the table at Coventry City

Circumstances around leaving Barnsley he doesn’t want to discuss? Intriguing

Any ideas @Barnsley?

Have both, they can play together or separately, nice dilemma for the manager.

I think Kelly should have 1 more year. He's only 31 ffs.

looking at our tactics since January when we signed two strikers, we’ve changed all three front men between 45 minutes and 60 minutes, with Matty in the team we had to replace him around the 60 minute mark, because he wasn’t fit enough to play at our tempo for a full game, I think it was a case of he was costing too much not to play, and he was limiting our changes having to come off so we took the decision to let him leave.

but it’s guessing on my part.

1 more ? Age is nothing when your not reliant on pace his positioning is second to none we will give him at least a new 2 year

Money can be better spent elsewhere IMO , wouldn’t be disheartened if we signed him, but feel other areas need addressing

Well I'd say 2 years too but it sounds more like we are releasing him

Money will be ok as long as we stay up now back at Ricoh, for me we need

3 CB’s
1 keeper
1 No.9
2 LB

A Kelly James Hamer midfield is strong but not very quick or penetrative. I suspect long term Kelly and James are vying for the same spot

Why 2 LB?

Need something else in AM as well I think. Bit of pace.

Pretty much my feelings. He’s been solid enough but not massively impressive. If we keep him ahead of Kelly, fine. If we don’t, fine.

It's very different using a diamond when you are playing 3 CBs as opposed to a flat back four

Nah he’s going into the first team pal I reckon. Even if not I’d have him as backup and use the money elsewhere

But different signing of similar quality could cost big bucks and high wages so why when we know what Matty James brings to the table and has fitted into the team well.

A lot is going to be dependent on the options MR gets to make. The more season tickets are sold the more SISU will release the purse strings, so much of what will happen on the transfer front is in our hands as fans.

edit - Just read this back and of course it is stating the obvious, but sometimes I think some of our fans lose sight of this simple reality.

I wish I shared your confidence the more STs sold means the more sisu will release to MR for team building. The last three summers for example funds for the MRs budget have been on the back of large incoming transfer fees I’m not confident we will have that this season.

That's because we spend what we make. Can't spend huge fees if we have next to no income

I know it’s an absolute long shot, but I’d rather use the money from his wages and throw it all at getting Leo on a permanent deal.

Keeping James as well as Kelly (who should get 2 years) it leaves Sheaf in the cold so Robins on a small budget can't see him being retained and none of us know how set in stone this arrangement is also we are needing other areas of the pitch positions reinforced.
I can only see with that possible Conundrum Sheafs deal being abandoned as James will be a major part of any budget.

We do know how set in stone it is. Robins has said it’s an obligation not an option.

Frankly if we lose out on a good young prospect to have two ageing crocks at DM I’d be worried about Robins’ judgement.

Yes-wonder if that will make it a more level playing field in terms of transfers etc in the next couple of years?

Not while other clubs are happy to lose millions a year. Obviously more income will improve things but if we're attempting to be self sustaining and other clubs are happily losing a fortune its still going to be hard.

Forest lost 32 million last year apparently. And have 3nd3d up just outside the relegation places. Mind boggling

Yeah and kind of confirms the impression of the rot across certain perceived established giants in our league who just keep digging to escape their reality I think.
Just compound their situation year on year ,owner on owner etc

Hoping to be sort of proved right at seasons end that it would all contribute to our continuation ,not quite as effectively as I initially thought as they're all rolling the dice again be it personnel or financial switches.

And one of the reasons Forest amongst others fail is they appoint cheque book managers. It’s okay flashing the cash about but you have to get them to perform.
Which Mark Robins has done here.

I've never seen an article/interview with MR saying this? That would be worrying to me due to the price being reported was £750k!?

I don't think Sheaf is worth anywhere near that and I'd prefer to have James in any case as I think he's a better all-round footballer and potential leader also.

Sky Blues have 'obligation' not 'option' to buy Ben Sheaf

Arsenal midfielder Ben Sheaf has become Coventry City's ninth summer signing
www.coventrytelegraph.net

I think you're very very wrong on Sheaf, but that's besides the point. I think James is a Kelly replacement anyway, not a Sheaf replacement, but I'd still take Sheaf over him if he was due to his resale value.
