I wonder why no other club signed him before us? He's been one of the best in the division for years.

Maybe he was too expensive before but now he's a little older his value dropped a bit.

We were interested in him for a while before he signed according to Douglas.

Absolutely superb player.

Sheffield United &, I think Fulham, tried before but he didn't want to leave.

The bloke’s an absolute genius on the ball and always puts in a massive shift grafting when out of possession. Not bad in the air and reads the game so well. Amazing player.

Kane wasnt a bad player but he clearly had an attitude problem that stopped him being what he could be

Still got no idea how we managed to get him out of Swansea. Also, no idea how he doesn't have more Premier League appearances to his name.

Yeah it'd be silly to say Kane was experienced at this level.

It’s a lovely attempt but Bidwell has shown himself at this level to be a more than adequate player and would easily be signed by other clubs. No one is signing Todd Kane.

You have a strange obsession with players like him and Allen in particular as not being capable. They clearly are and Allen was excellent today

I said people got carried away with him same way. Some acted line kane was such a good player

Bidwell is much better

Not better than JDS but as about a good a rotation/back up as you can get. Big part of the squad.

Grimes is simply a top quality player seemingly at the peak of his powers in a very good side. I can’t recall a player finding the space he does and his range of passing is sublime.
I thought he outstanding for Swansea against us time and time again and he is the best player in the championship in my opinion. Lampard knows a player he sees one!

Lamps said Grimes was even better than he thought he was.
Have to give Austin credit, he was already on our try to buy list before Lamps came in.
Think his age considering the price determined Swansea letting him go.
Hope he can keep going for some years yet. Look at Bannon who was brilliant today for Wednesday.

Robins instinct has always been to defend first. Our new regime is fuck it lets go for it.
PSG, Bournemouth and Newcastle play a similar get if forward quick policy. Obviously, we are light years behind those teams but it is the right way forward.
PSG and Newcastle even go for the rugby kick it into touch from kick off to press the opposition high up the pitch. Where are the old Wimbledon when you need them?

Let's be honest, for £3.5m we won't make much, if any, profit on him. But not every signing is about making a profit. The profit we will make on him will be the PL money next season after he leads us to the promised land.

But let's put into context for a minute.
Matty Grimes > Ben Sheaf
£3.5m > £6.5m
30 > 27

Sheaf won't ever reach Grimes levels imo. But we got double for him than what we paid for Grimes. 2 of the best bits of business we've ever done imo

Grimes is bang average at best...

Consistently passing to his own players...

Frustratingly consistent...

Not made of glass...

A complete waste of money...

Oh... He'll also play until he's 56...

Bloody rubbish!

If there is a fk up Saint Grimes runs like "BillyO" sometimes from 50-60 yards to try & recover possession. I have been watching City for decades. He may very well become the best Captain we have ever had ? A footballer & a leader on & off the pitch.

The poor fella can’t run for shit. Doesn’t mean he isn’t a terrific footballer and if he’s running, he’s made a mistake.

Different players for different situations.

Grimes hardly ever gives the ball away. If there isn't anyone in front of him in a p position to receive the ball he will pass sideways and even backwards to keep position. But as soon as someone finds a little bit of space it goes forward. If someone finds space 30 yards in front of him he will hit them with the ball.

It’s crazy that a 30 year old championship player was immediately (without any real easing in) so important to the way we play.

Renders the opinion of Swansea fans on players essentially void from here on.

It's not as simple as that. I remember a thread on here questioning the same thing. It wasn't noticed how he pinged the ball a fair distance when space was found. Some just wouldn't have it. The very next game he pinged three 30 yard passes

He had offers over the years but was very happy at Swansea. Things change.

On a change of subject but the Woolfenden interview said a lot. He was very happy being at our club. He didn't come here expecting to come straight into the side. We were playing very well so knew he had to wait for a chance. But after being with Ipswich and helping to get them to the Prem the reason he wanted to leave was ability wasn't what got you into the team but it was politics that kept you out. Only those at a club know most of the changes that happen.

I was about to make the same comparison. Bannon's game isn't about or pace or power, but he dominates play and sets the tempo, Grimes is much the same. I can't see why he can't go on a few more years. Hope so anyway!

Lampard had to persuade King to pay the money we did for a player of his age, glad he did and glad King listened.
