Grimes is simply a top quality player seemingly at the peak of his powers in a very good side. I can’t recall a player finding the space he does and his range of passing is sublime.
I thought he outstanding for Swansea against us time and time again and he is the best player in the championship in my opinion. Lampard knows a player he sees one!

I find it amazing that Swansea fans were a bit divided on him. Some did really rate him but others were basically saying he passes sideways etc.

The bloke’s an absolute genius on the ball and always puts in a massive shift grafting when out of possession. Not bad in the air and reads the game so well. Amazing player.

I assume you don't know what the word literally means.

Unless you've spotted him with a tube of loctite.

Genuinely one of the best signings we have ever made.

If we'd signed Stamenic then Grimes would still be at Swansea.

Properly sliding doors moment, gutting at the time but we've made off like bandits in the long run.

It’s crazy that a 30 year old championship player was immediately (without any real easing in) so important to the way we play.

Renders the opinion of Swansea fans on players essentially void from here on.

Think that was bitterness. He was a key player for them who was wanted in the prem. I didn’t believe we could get him right up until we actually got him.

I love Sheaf but Grimes is different gravy and twice the player sheaf was

He's a player you have to build your team around to get the best out of and that's what Lampard has done to incredible effect.

The most important thing is that he's so robust as well, if he misses a game it's probably a big injury.

I remember this well, after about 4 games! It took BTA about 10 games just to remember how to control a football.

You buy players like Grimes for their relentless consistency. His fitness and performance levels at Swansea in a division as demanding as this and especially in the position he plays, it's so hard to find in this league.

You can basically count him down for at least a 7/10 performance each week. He's now regularly getting up to win the ball high up the pitch as well as coming back to help relieving pressure on the defence. Worth every penny of his fee so far

Grimes reminds me of Carrick in his play

He allows the centre backs to play wider which allows our full backs to tuck in as inverted fullbacks .. which allows our wingers to come back as wing backs and we smother teams through midfield and overwhelm them in transition

That's how I see his role

How I see it too. Which is why I used to laugh when people said he's too deep and another CB

That's literally the space he's supposed to work in and get things going for us

i said at the time £3.5m was a great deal for him and certain detractors said it was too much for a man of his age.

Hes better than I ever thought hed be , did he play a half back role at Swansea like he does here ? Or was he a flat out holding midfielder

flat holding midfielder i believe. i think he benefits from our fast attacking system. i’d imagine he would be limited to sideways passing football, like they accuse him of,under Martin

Mad that you’d never heard of him when I’m sure we’d played Swansea at least 4 times when he was playing

He essentially did exactly the same thing as he is doing here. But now he has decent attacking players in front of him; Swansea fans seemed reluctant to recognise this was their actual issue.

Grimes
Rudoni
Wright
MVE

Would all be in our premier league side next year if we get promoted imo

And then

Dovin/rushworth
Thomas
Kithcing
Woolfendon
Emc
Torp

All have the potential to step up too to highest level perhaps

And could be a few that surprise us too.

And that's before we get to new signings!

Ok now I'm getting carried away!

Was saying to my dad on the way home that I have a deep fondness for mark robins , a club legend and one of our greatest achievement wise .. but what we are seeing right now is something different .. some credit to the 2 coaches who are clearly premier league level coaches
