Coventry City have signed Everton defender Matthew Pennington on a youth loan until January 4th.

The 20-year old defender had two loan spells at Tranmere Rovers during the 2013/14 season and made 17 appearances for the Merseyside club, scoring two goals.

Pennington can play in central defence and at right-back, and received a cap for the England Under-19s in March 2013.

City manager Steven Pressley believes the Warrington-born defender will add strength to the City squad over a busy Christmas period.

Pressley said: "Matthew impressed us playing for Tranmere last season when we played against them at Prenton Park.

"He is a versatile defender who can fill a variety of positions across the back-line which will be invaluable over the Christmas period.

"He has featured regularly for Everton Under-21s this season and we're delighted to bring Matthew to the club."

seemed to bottle a few challenges 2nd half when he was down my side of the field didnt really notice him 1st. he may have cost us the game heading the ball wide when madine was running in to head it on target (not blaming him just found himself in the way)
