Keep it coming saddle... Most know if things don't get done doesn't mean the club didn't try.. Getting signings over the line is hard especially in Jan. I hope they get this particular one done because all the names i have seen or heard be mentioned this is the best and most needed yet

Great player though. Didn't he score a hatrck of penalties against us in 1986 in a replay at Anfield

Yes, in the summer it’s unlikely we keep Sheaf though. Unless he is willing to extend his contract, which is a doubt.

Maybe if we finish in the playoffs or just short of it, we’ll keep MVE, Sheaf and so on. It’s important we’re ambitious this window and next to demonstrate to the fans and the players that we’re serious about promotion.

So we’re skint and Doug refuses to sign anyone he can’t turn a profit on but we’re now bidding for a 29 yo midfielder who wants the move because we’re offering far better wages than he’s on now?

Would be absolutely unreal if we can get it over the line, a cm I’ve wanted for years

wouldn’t hold your breath though with king and Austin, something will stop it happening

Assuming it's a simple plan. Have him here for two or three years when Sheaf goes and let Rudoni, Torp and whoever else use him as their backstop while they develop. Smart.

Really? If Blackburn have only just come back in for BTA but we have been trying for a while and have already made 2 bids for Grimes that timeline doesn't quite fit.

The stopgap would be signing players to get up to the Prem.

We’ve signed a lot of promising talent that gives us profitability in the squad. We’re not going to get promoted if all we’re doing is signing 20-24 years to sell on.

Using Grimes as an example, he’ll give us 4-5 years potentially and probably won’t be itching for a move to the Prem/abroad at the nearest opportunity. Players we’ve signed like Wright and MVE don’t plan on staying in the championship for 4-5 seasons when they’re obviously good enough to move up a step.

I remember going up to Anfield in the mid 80s for a League Cup game and he scored a hat-trick of penalties against us!

He deserves a contract extension, imo. A good role player and leader, even if I had written him off earlier in the season. If we sign Grimes and another CM then the case for moving him along becomes stronger.

Grimes is the kind of signing that is probably the immediate replacement if Sheaf was to go. I’m not sure how we’d look to fit in Torp-Grimes-Sheaf-Rudoni at the minute.

Easy.

It will be interesting to see what sort of fee it's for. According to Transfermarkt.co.uk Grimes value is around €6 million which works out just over £5 million. To give some perspective the same site has Rudoni at the same €6 million with Sheaf and Eccles at €7 million each.

Grimes is rumored to be on around £22k a week at Swansea, our top earners are reportedly Binks on £30k and Wright on £25k. You'd assume it is going to be £25k+.

And that is an assumption too. Just like it was Doug's decision to put an age limit on signing.

Obviously would be an incredible boost to the club.

However, I really don't like the pivot away from targeting younger players as a transfer philosophy. Need to stay consistent with the approach.

To me, it is telling and it sounds like King is getting desperate and may go for broke for promotion in the next year or two.

Yes I think it was the league cup and the a few days later I was at Liverpool in the league and Ian Rush fell over a blade of grass and they got another penalty

And don't be shocked if 29 year old Allen gets 2 years as well. But apparently Doug is dictating and running with a set structure. The only thing restricted is Doug doesn't like the loan system unless its with and aim to buy after. So not enough known but proof seems to be any restrictions were order by the last management team not Doig.

But let's see what happens with Grimes, Allen and JS over the next week.

To be honest I only recall it because of the hat trick. It wouldn't even register if not for that. I have been to 100s of games but can't remember most of them.
