He basically does what Allen's been doing the last few games, really really well

Yeah - probably means Allen dropping into the periphery again.

Torp, Rudoni and Sheaf will be big beneficiaries playing alongside. He'll knit everything together

Matt Grimes: Coventry City target Swansea City midfielder

Coventry City are hoping to sign Swansea City captain Matt Grimes before the transfer window closes next week.

It's an actually BBC story not a random rumour so we are after him

For those with longer memories - we had a Grimes in midfield before and that still gives me nightmares.

Not comparing the 2 in any way!

Bit disappointed by this as per my previous comments on Grimes. Players react to different managers tactics etc so not saying it’s going to be a bad signing, but for me he’s not what we need. Often see him strolling around the pitch not putting a foot in when he should, etc. don’t get be wrong he has a wand of a left foot but I think he’s more of a luxury player than what we need….. unless that’s how the swans coaches have asked him to play and he’s a workhorse being held back.

Hopefully he is unsettled by this and can’t play against us.

This would be a very good signing.

It’ll be done by then I’d imagine

Excellent work if we can get this done before the weekend, we might even beat the bastards for a change.

With him to score the winner, kiss the CCFC badge and shush all their fans after running past their manager smiling?

You've got to have a mix of youth and experience in the squad, and hopefully Lampard has identified the lack of a proper captain who can lead by example and rally the team when things get tough.

I agree though that this is the kind of signing you make when you're planning to make a real go of it in the next one or two seasons.

He's already identified the lack of a proper captain and now he's playing him!

Allen, all due respect to him, is a useful role player. Nothing more, nothing less.

He’s put in a fine string of performances and lately and deserves all the plaudits he’s getting. There’s levels to this and players like Sheaf and Grimes are just 2-3 gears ahead of him.

This isn't something that comes up overnight, assuming this was happening at the same time as Matondo negotiations so there is a little money there even without someone like BTA moving on.

Agree there. Allen is now in a position where if his contract is extended and he is asked to cover a run of games then none of us would complain at all, however would we want him as a permanent player in that position probably not.

They would if they knew he was on his way out, a bit like how some on this forum said Hamer was a 6 month wonder

Hes been one of the stand out midfielders in the league for number of years.

Case of you dont always appreciate what you have sometimes. Hes just a very good footballer for the role he plays.

Appreciate as fans you are always a little bitter, similar to COH in ways, fans saying hes not that good etc - again hes a very good football player for the role he plays.

Fans in general I don't think have a real clue. But after Gyokeres, Swansea more so than any other don't have a clue.

Excellent signing!

It's similar to some of the views on Sheaf expressed here as it becomes apparent he might have thought about moving on
