You've got to have a mix of youth and experience in the squad, and hopefully Lampard has identified the lack of a proper captain who can lead by example and rally the team when things get tough.

Allen is now in a position where if his contract is extended and he is asked to cover a run of games then none of us would complain at all, however would we want him as a permanent player in that position probably not.Allen, all due respect to him, is a useful role player. Nothing more, nothing less.
He’s put in a fine string of performances and lately and deserves all the plaudits he’s getting. There’s levels to this and players like Sheaf and Grimes are just 2-3 gears ahead of him.
