The Liverpool player was only a rumour on here, so the source is no different to Saddlebrains saying King is against loans.
Austin was also very negative towards loan signings when asked about them at the forum. I think he'd have mentioned if we'd had one lined up but if fell though and I'm fairly sure it didn't.

no, no it wasn't. I saw a liverpool twitter feed talk about it as well

Also all Austin said was loans can be difficult, why would he talk about failed transfers?

Also the fact that we want to loan players from Chelsea as per the press (although Chelsea say wait until end of window0 is more evidence we don't say no to all loans.

You've main your mind up and it's just pure confirmation bias now.

I just hope he can bring a bit more than Sheaf.
Play at a higher tempo, be a bit quicker, thread more forward passes, tackle a bit harder, cover the defence a bit better.

If he's a Sheaf MK2 I'll be a bit disappointed.

But absolutely we need more quality, experience and a calm head central midfield to help progress.

Different to Sheaf. Not made of glass. Very good at tackling without getting carded. Solid when getting tackled. But best of all is always looking to make a defence splitting accurate pass instead of sideways or backwards.

Absolutely. In my opinion this is a statement of intent from Doug and FL. Sign one of the best in his position in The Championship for a decent fee with all the leadership qualities we are missing . They've obviously been working on this transfer for a while and have not rushed into getting a stop gap solution.

Your theory has no more weight of evidence behind it than mine.
I've said I could be wrong, but nothing you've said has dissuaded me so I'll leave it there

it has loads more, i mean the fact we have been trying to get loans from Chelsea is in many sources

Still, you have the right to be wrong.

Slightly different info to the Swansea end, but I'm told no training or anyone at Ryton today, day off with the busy schedule coming up

He is travelling up today though

Medical tomorrow, announcement tomorrow or Friday

Would be nice but in all likelihood the clubs will reach an agreement that he doesn’t play Saturday, actually don’t think it would be an easy game for him to play in, against colleagues and friends literally days after he left, had it have been a couple of weeks then yes but not a couple of days. We shall see though

I've just looked back at his comments and I wouldn't go as far to say he was 'very negative'. However, interestingly and as I suspected, Brighton clearly gave the club a bollocking over how it handled Ayari during his time here.

I suspect for this reason there is certainly an element of scepticism towards the loan market. But at the same time I don't think it's as binary as DK or DA hates loans. I suspect it's more likely that they're just conscious of a repeat of the above. Here's what DA said:

"If we bring loan players in, loan players expect to come in and play. And their clubs expect them to play.

“So, for example, Yasin Ayari. He was a player we identified who we really liked last season, went through it with Mark (Robins) and he was really happy with Yasin. And if you asked Mark today he would say he thought Yasin would be a super player.

“For Yasin, it took him a little bit of time to get going and he didn’t play as much football as he would have liked. You then get a situation where you get his agent involved and then his club involved where they have loaned him out to us and they really want to see him have more minutes on the field."

This is my thoughts too. The game would become a bit of a pantomime and would be distracting for us. Play the same 11 that played against Watford and introduce Grimes in the next league game

Yes I know Sheaf has been poor this season and is likely off in the summer. But last season he was one of the best DMs in the league, as was Grimes.

As well as Torp and Allen have done recently, Grimes and Sheaf would arguably be one of the best midfield pairings in the league and yes I think they could definitely play together, particularly if/when we revert to a back 4.

Perhaps we now in fact have the choice to play two different shapes according to the opposition and match situation where we can be equally proficient

He's had plenty of game time this season and we're clearly better without him.

I think the loan market has changed a lot over the years. Previously you never heard of loan fees, and parent clubs would cover the wages of young players being sent out. Nowadays with young players already earning a lot of money at top clubs, the clubs want to recoup some of the value, which means percentage of their wages and possibly a loan fee being added in. It completely changes the loan market all together. Didn't Aston Villa have to pay millions to get Abraham on loan in the championship? So loaning a player now is a lot more expensive than it used to be, and could possibly be seen as dead money if they hardly play.

I'm just glad he won't be lining up against us.
Taking their skipper and arguably best player out of the equation should help us get a decent result down there for a change.

Not sure it's as binary as this with Sheaf. I think there's multiple factors which have affected his performances this season. He's still an incredible talent at this level and I'd be keen to retain him but I doubt he'll be here beyond this summer.

Yes as I said, he's been poor this season. But he hasn't turned into a shit player overnight.

We'vee been better without him recently but clearly that's not all down to Sheaf not playing, there are other factors at play. Who knows we could be even better with him back.

I just don't see us benching Sheaf for the rest of the season and I think him and Grimes would make a brilliant partnership in front of a back 4.

He really isn't 'an incredible talent at this level'.
He has a certain poise which impresses some but actually his output is bang average.
At this point he'd be lucky to get in our pretty average midfield.

I've said this before on here but not all loans require a fee. Some parent clubs pick up the bill but there are caveats, such as they have to play otherwise the club theyre loaned to pay their wages.

McFadzean touched on this in his interview with Skyblue TV last week.

If he's off there's little point playing him anyway.
But generally he doesn't help the team's best style of play which is higher tempo and quickly using wide players.
He also doesn't help protect the somewhat shaky defence enough.
